    that was a research team under Zenos, which included people (even Zenos himself) who even the Garleans found to be too unethical and too far into the realm of insanity. All the other cases have merely been borrowing the actual things creating magical effects and forcing those things to use those abilities for the Garleans' own ends.


    Now if Blue Mage was to have such an origin area, then it would probably have to be within an equal realm of consideration as that.

    For new classes, I can't help but notice that we have an odd number of dps. We have 3 magic/caster (rdm, blm, smn), 3 healers (sch, ast, whm), 3 tanks (pld, drk, war), 2 ranged dps (mch, brd), and 4 melee dps (mnk, drg, sam, nin).

    If there are any new jobs, I would expect 1 new ranged job. The question then is what role they have compared to brd and mch. We'll have to see what direction SE decides to go with their mch buffs, but the ranged job should provide a lot more utility. Dancer might actually fit into this role, possibly using a throwing weapon like a chakram or something as their ranged weapon. In the worst case scenario (because we won't see a major change for 2 years, and then BRDs will complain like WAR and SCH now), it can steal some of the BRD's utility. We can all agree that BRD is currently overflowing with utility and can afford to share some of it with another job; and dancer would be an easy one to transfer to.

    I would also hope for a new tank and healer job (especially since the ratio of total dps and tank/healer combinations jobs is tilting a little bit), but I do want SE to get a better understanding of what role they want the existing tanks and healers to do. Geomancer seems an interesting choice for an aoe healer, and I can see a hammer-wielding tank as a possibility in the future as well. A Blue Mage tank might be interesting as a way to combine Garlean or Allagan technologies for a debuff-type of tank, but I have no idea what mechanics would be good currently.

    I expect a Gunblade using job that falls under the Physical Ranged Role, but has several abilities to run into melee similar to a RDM.

    Beyond that, I'd enjoy a Green Mage who does 'dps' by instead providing damage boosting buffs or mitigation buffs constantly to other classes. Or possibly a Dancer type healer that heals in melee or uses TP.

    I'm unsure of what I'd want for Tank, Blue Mage maybe? Uncertain.

    I always thought Green Mage was sort of built into Summoner when it came out in ARR. Historically, they were a status inducer/debuffer, and the dot system SMNs got reminded me of that.

    I could see Garleans be Runefencers /Rune Knights with Gunblades. They can't use magic on their own and would have to use augmented rune stones to be able to use it. I think it would fit well.

    The problem with Green Mage of that ilk is that kind of "does their job by improving others instead" gameplay sorta crashed and burned with Astro.

    Balancing AST initially meant lower potencies on everything else, since the thought was the buffs would boost the party enough that you would be fine with the weaker heals. Buffbuffbuff later and AST's heals are on par/more powerful than the other two healers, they are almost indispensable for group content since they still have those buffs.

    I'm not sure SE would want to try that kind of style again, even with a DPS.


    Personally, I'd prefer a Green Mage being more of the DoT mage, now that SMN is moving away from that status.

    That's actually why I've always suggested that Green Mage be a tank in order to fit the theme of buff/debuff specialist that it brings in FFTA2, not to mention that it was also the tankiest of all the Viera class options in that game.

    Most of them are more or less outdated, but here is the whole list I had prior to the launch of Stormblood:

    Green Mage (hammer, based around ancient Dravanian lore)
    Sorcerer (caster tank loosely designed off of Morpher from FFTA)

    I agree. Why bother specifying he is a Geomancer and even give him unique spells like "Qi of Earth" "Qi of Air" and "Qi of Water". Instead of stone, Aero, and water.

    Doesn't make sense to put in extra work to do those little things when you're not going to even make it a playable job
