    I wonder whether it'd work if there was a grace period of maybe two globals before the barrel actually overheated. The whole gauge could pulse red alerting you and you could then hit Cooldown to back off or let the countdown finish and intentionally overheat. That'd solve the "I was avoiding certain death and accidentally hit Split Shot and now my gun's melting."

    That would be... problematic. For one it would have a problem with our overheat when we want to overheat for our wildfire. Which means any intentional overheat would go from fluid (arguably what it is now) to clunky.

    That would be counterproductive to optimal gameplay because contrary to what a lot of MCH think- there is a time and place to overheat and get a DPS increase.

    A lot of people have an issue with overheating, this imo comes from lack of practice. You should always know where your heat is at and work from there. If you use your ammo on CD to include QR heat management should not be an issue.
