Been playing at 70 for two day ~ish now, and I pretty much agree with everything op has to say.
While I'm not really sure what the idea behind the overheat was (did they intend us to stay 50-99? To overheat wf? who knows, right now 50-99 seems to be the way to go but both suck in their own way), I don't think the kit itself it that bad. I actually find it kinda fun to babysit heat now, it just sucks if you misstep and overheat. The penalty is way too big especially considering how little dmg we already do at the moment.
I wish I was able to move with the flamethrower, having to go melee to use it and not be able to move while it goes on sucks. I've let myself get hit by a few aoes, because I preferred getting my heat to 90 and I figured I could survive it. Not sure the healer is as excited about that. Also once accidentally turned around before using it so I were spraying away from the mobs, which, there's no way to salvage that either.
Haven't experienced it cancelling itself for no reason, so can't speak about that.
I'm not big on the heated animations, they make me slightly dizzy. I'd love to be able to toggle them back to the old ones without affecting heat/dmg, just for the appearance. But that's just a minor personal annoyance that doesn't affect gameplay. I'd much rather have dmg and flamethrower fixed first, just thought I'd throw it out there.
Im gonna keep playing it because I do find it fun, and that's 1st importance to me. I like it being a bit messy and having me on my toes and work for my dmg, but right now the reward for all the work feels rather underwhelming.
my MCH is now at 70 and i am seeing no dmg increased at all =/, yes i do enjoy the mobility it feels really nice but our dmg is way too low.. how the heck are we going to compete our slot in raid? SE better fix this crap soon..
I think they "nerfed" WF on purpose as it was making MCH the highest dps class as the ilvls got higher(30K in echo A11s???), I can understand that. Wildfire WAS MCH's identity...but due to loss of damage buffs, its taken a heavy hit and MCH are struggling again as they did in 3.0.
But I'd rather they just nerf WF to 15% and buff HS or Gauss Barrel to 10%, and/or maybe raise all potencies by 10 or 20, or at least the heated combo.

Keep the potency, we are getting 30 potency from being heated + 25 from ammunition.
Guss Barrel (Heat Gauge), Hypercharge, and Hot Shot % can be reworked, at least for one of them.

I think it's a pretty good sign that the few things that need tweaking just amount to percentages with personal buffs rather than the class's actual mechanics. The challenge I was looking for is still there; it's just a few numbers here and there.
I leveled MCH from 31 to 52 in the past few days and I was already not sold on it, but this thread pushed me over the edge.
Things were taking far, FAR too long to die, even with perfect rotations on weaving in quick/reload to maximize procs.
Also, trying to keep heat at 50-99 for the rotation sounds like more of a PITA than I want to deal with, and certainly isn't justified by the class' DPS output. I can only imagine what trying to maintain 50-99 in the middle of insane raid AoE and rapid target switching is going to be like...
After leveling MCH, I switched over to ROG which I had at 29, unlocked NIN and noticed that shit drops SOOOO much faster than it did for MCH. I know there must be SOME compensation for being a ranged DPS, but I can probably kill ~2-3 mobs on NIN in the time it takes me to kill ONE as MCH.
This class needs HELP, badly...
I'm just going to tell you that any judgement of a classes DPS before max level isn't exactly sound judgement. Yes MCH is weak at the launch of this xpac, but that can be tuned up with Hot Shot % and a few other tweaks, it's not this giant project or travesty.
it is true, at the 1st MCH was weak but after a few patch it become alot stronger, so i am hoping for good patch coming in the next few weeks for MCH.
So what we lost is:
Raging strikes
Blood for Blood
Hawks' eye
25% from gauss barrel
5% from hypercharge
Yes we have some potency buffs, but what's understated is that all of these are thrown into wildfire for stacking %'s of devastation, and all of these multipliers are straight damage lost out of wildfire. These are un-compensated or unbalanced changes. Potency/heated shots and auto-attacks aren't enough to counteract all of this loss during a shorter wildfire window.
