I just wanted to correct #2. You don't need anyone to watch ice nodes any more than you need someone guarding a base. Keep your map open. When an ice node activates, when your base is taken, or even when an entire enemy team is heading your way, you can see it all in realtime on the map. You can't see enemy players not in combat, or a ninja hiding (not sure they can even still do so), but nearly everything you need to see or be aware of is able to see on the map.
By node I actually meant base, and in most pvp games it's wise to have at least one person guarding it. Not having any forewarning or even just one guy to fight off a ninja trying to take it can cost you a decent chunk of points for the 30 seconds or more you may potentially lose
