I have a friend who runs into this same crash regardless of whether they're running the DX11 or DX9 client. Anarkh is correct in that the only reason DX11 is mentioned in the info-panel upon crashing is because it's the game's executable reporting the error. If you're running the DX9 version, the client's executable is "ffxiv.exe". If you're running the DX11 version, it's "ffxiv_dx11.exe".

Having said that, even if the DX9 client didn't suffer from the same flaw I would be hesitant to call it a "solution". The DX9 client is graphically inferior to the DX11 client and players shouldn't have to resort to playing an inferior version of the game indefinitely simply because of a bug that can and should be fixed.
