An idea for housing and server space

So, as far as I know, one of the biggest issues restricting housing is that the servers dedicated to it can't handle the load (which is why we don't have instanced housing, for example).

But what if we, the players, could help with that? What if SE put unique housing areas on the Mog Station as a one-time fee - the funds in turn going toward more servers and thus more plots in the traditional residential districts?

This way, you could have the option to live in locales other than the main ones but your purchase would go toward funding more space for the main ones. You get a creative plot to call your own in an unusual place, while people who would rather not spend money can live in the traditional areas.


Imagine for a moment, being able to choose to live in places like:

- A cozy Coerthan cabin (although I think Coerthas is slated to warm up sometime in the future according to Yoshi-P?)

- On the Azim Steppe in a traditional Au Ra yurt

- Underwater in a city like where the Kojin live

The only issues here would be that the interiors and exteriors of the homes would look different, but you could still place furniture and such inside and decorate it the way you wanted.

It's interesting, but I imagine for it to be workable it would have to be a monthly fee like with extra retainers. A one-time fee won't cover the fact that so long as you own that house, you're taking up extra server space that they would otherwise not have to maintain, ya know? We already have a bunch of optional items that people complain about, having housing buyable with actual money I think would push a lot of people over the edge. Plus housing is supposed to be a gil sink, if you're buying with irl money it kind of defeats the whole purpose.

Hrmm you seem to be under the impression that SE don't have the money to go towards changing their server setup. I'm pretty sure they do, they are one of the biggest gaming companies in the world. I'd say what is actually delaying any improvement is them trying to figure out how to do it. It's not simply a case of "more servers". They'll have to change a lot about how they work and communicate with other servers for the game.

Wasn't that back in 1.0 when they lost share value because the game was so bad the player base died? As far as I'm aware they have recovered from it since.

They recovered enough to finance FFXV and a FFVIII remake, among other games........
