I really like the way red mage is currently and I personally do not want to see it changed however I need to post to those saying red mage was always a caster first that you are wrong.

It might have been played mainly as a caster but the history and lore of the red mage is not caster main.

"Jack of ALL trades master of none."

Red mage is a proficient swordsman but not as good as warrior.
Red mage is proficient in low level black magic but not as good as black mage.
Red mage is proficient in low level white magic but not as good as white mage.

Those saying they want red mage as a true hybrid are correct it is meant to be able to do decent melee as well as ranged.
I re iterate though that I would rather it not changed and someone else rightly said a true hybrid wouldn't work in this game as it would just be alright in its 3 proficiencies but better to bring a sword/magic master.

Red mage is NOT traditionally a caster it was a hybrid of all 3 specialities.
