What needs to happen is Squeenix needs to offer free transfers off Gilgamesh and Balmung for over one year to any server they choose.

It is utterly ridiculous to have locked down these servers. People have paid enough to get on them over the past four years.

Squeenix needs to show unlimited transfers off Gilgamesh for at least a full year, if not two.

Anyone transferring to either server, myself included, were well aware how populated they were. SE is doing what is best for all servers by locking them.... though admittedly late.

A split isn't going to work since how exactly would you even facilitate one? A better solution, if they ever were to go this route, is a brand new server where only Balmung players could transfer into for a couple weeks. The reason being is this allows anyone transferring to keep their houses-- the biggest motivating factor for many players, especially roleplayers. You then designate it an official RP server, along with another one or two. That will entice roleplayers off Balmung. After all, there's a reason people keep bringing up the RP label during live letters.

But they aren't going to do that since it costs money. Which is fine, however I am curious just how many people will actually leave Balmung.

they clearly don't seem to care about how their servers arnt allowing people to connect and the que times for logging in on large servers sucks, the servers ability to allow people to stay connected sucks, instance servers suck. They need more backbone servers for sure, as far as congested worlds, their PR is so bad right now, I wouldn't be shocked If they tried the united airlines method, if you don't wanna leave a overbooked server, draw a lottery and throw random people onto less populated ones. XD

There is no way for a server split to work without extreme customer backlash. If people couldn't handle two days of Raubhan savage and Pipin extreme, gods help ya if you try to force a move on them. That said, it's a shame that this is the case. A forced split from the existing serfvers--essentially social dynamite--is the only way I think we have hope of seeing any real improvement.

    1. Message all players who have characters on the servers that are to be terminated both via e-mail, on mogstation and in game.

    2. Give 30 / 60 / 90 days for them to select where to transfer their character(s) among a selection of pre-determined worlds. This would give people time to plan for the move and would hopefully help large communities not get shattered.

    3. Offer some form of compensation or transfer for things like housing, apartments, airships, etc.

    4. Grant all players who actively take part in the move--i.e. selecting a new world for their character(s) with worthwhile compensation for positively and actively taking part in resolving this problem.

    6. Move unclaimed / unselected characters to whichever world SE desires since their player did not actively choose to take responsibility for them.

...And there you have it. The huge servers are dispersed, people have enough time to sort things with friends / fc / community, people get compensated for the annoyances of these actions and rewarded for actively taking part.

They then have to select a new world. But that would then face the earlier backlash of "I can't play with my friends!" because they didn't select it in time and they'd feel that their delay in getting the message or whatever is SE's fault. Unfortunately, I think the random split (with FC's getting to stick together in one server, while friends lists and linkshells go cross-realm) is the way to go. Swap one of the servers in a different datacentre with Balmung or Gilgamesh (to put Gilgamesh and Balmung on different datacentres), then ensure the split is only moving people within the same datacentre. That way, all your contacts from that realm you were on before remain. There'd still be a huge backlack (there would be however a forced server split is done), but I think this might be the safest way to do it as it would help people keep contacts much easier.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

Yeah, that wouldn't work. Certain servers are considered "official" by outside communities. Gilgamesh for example is reddits' official server unless you're on legacy, than it's Balmung.

So splitting them up won't happen, as one server will get designated official by the community again, and thus nothing gets solved.

The better solution is to just offer a bigger carrot and don't allow character creation, housing, new retainers or FC's until congestion goes down. Literately SE can reach out to the largest FC's and ask them if they want to move and give some benefits to them for volunteering to do so. Have all the characters in that FC, their accounts, and their retainers on that server get moved in one shot if the FC members confirm being moved. If they don't confirm, they get dropped from the FC.

But short of that, any solution that is involuntary is going just result in backlash. The last thing you want is SE to just to arbitrarily divide the server by giving everyone a number, either a "1" or a "2" and let them freely trade 1's and 2's for 7 days before anyone holding a "1" gets dropped onto the new server, and anyone holding a "2" is left behind. Lose the ticket and you get sent to whichever one is needed to make up the balance.

I think the queue times are being made worse by DF being unstable at peak times, there is 0 queue right now and was 200-500 during the day its hardly at the breaking point just give it a week or two and it will go back to normal.

If you cant wait there is free transfers...

Kinda makes me wonder, if Balmung were to be reopened, simply cus the levels finally got to a safe level, do you think people would start trying to flood back in?

    Almost inevitably so, yes.

A big factor in that is how Mateus turns out as a second RP server. If it's still languishing, many people from there might give up and simply go to the larger option. That alone has been a huge reason roleplay on other servers has died off. People always had the choice to transfer onto Balmung where they were practically guaranteed to find RP.
