Achievements and Multiple Characters

The current achievement system is fun and gives players extra goals to work toward, which is great. However, achievements are attached to characters, not your account.

I would like to see achievements attached to your account instead of per character, so people with multiple characters can consolidate their achievement points. There are a few achievements that some players (like me ^^) will not obtain because half of their jobs are leveled on one character and half on another.

I understand that many people may say "Well, go level all of the jobs on the character you want the achievement with", but this seems like extra work and is certainly disadvantageous to those who already have the requirements fulfilled, just on separate characters.

Is anyone else thinking about this?

Even though there is no advantage to leveling separate characters for separate classes... and there are in fact disadvantages, you do this anyway. That's a choice you are entitled to. However, achievements make sense in being per character and not per account. Go ahead and count that as another disadvantage to splitting your progress across characters.

I actually think they make more sense being per account. The idea of achievements is a meta-gaming thing. Your character in-game (from a role-playing standpoint) is unaware of achievement points as we understand them.

In any case, I was not really asking for a critique on my choice to play several characters. Remember, the game was quite a different animal in the old days and many people had multiple characters just for inventory purposes alone. I chose to divide my characters mainly because of the levequest system, which isn't as big an issue today as it was in the past.

All that being set aside, SE provides the option to play multiple characters on a single account. Since they provide option for this, from a service standpoint they should accommodate those players who choose to follow this option.

Without turning blindly argumentative, do you think there really is a good reason not to combine achievements across all characters? You don't even have to count the same achievement twice if you have multiple characters with that achievement unlocked, nor must you give special items to every character. Just let the player choose which character for which that piece gets unlocked.

I believe that allowing achievements to be unlocked across your account is more in line with the spirit of the achievement system.

I agree, leave it per char not per account. You are looking at it from your own perspective of having two chars of your own on one account but there will be all kinds of issues with ppl who share an account, so sharing achievments simply could not work for that reason alone.

And really I can see having two chars for storage reasons but I dont really get the actual lvling of two chars thing, on the same account anyway, seperate accounts where you could duochar is much more adventagious imo. But to each their own ^^
