DPS 4.0: MNK, DRG, or NIN?

So on my alt, I am planning to use a jump potion just to get her up there quicker and allow my lil Lalafel Taru to match up to my main. ^^

So while I was working DRG now on her. Been debating which 4.0 DPS route to take, MNK, DRG or NIN.

I know Ive seen NIN totally destroy in PVP which is awesome. Then awhile back the study showed that MNK had better single target DPS performance then DRG which was more multi target aoe.

Any advice for the 4.0 update on if MNK is still the most ideal on DPS? Thanks.

I would decide for yourself based on concept of play, someone picking their favorite style for you might turn into deep regret lol.

Do you like positional? How is your knowledge of boss fights, and desire to learn them in advance (learning before first attempt)? Good management of some of the buffs will really rely on your ability to not blow your cool crap right when the boss jumps away, or better yet right when the boss decides to drop a bunch of AoEs on your face and you gracefully faceplant into them.

"IMO" from level 50 experience (not 4.0), Ninja was the easiest, while MNK kept me awake the most (lots of buttons and movement), and Dragoon required thought on what spell could be cast next before I decided to leap in the air. They've changed a bit and it wasn't level 60 so the info is a bit meh but yeah. I'd read the job guide which makes it easy, from the looks of it imo Ninja still looks simpler to play (so long as you don't get scared of the mudra stuff/have awful internet connection to the game).

MNK/DRG obviously have their buffs to maintain through combat, while Ninja has a buff it is much easier to maintain. DRG with their jumps. I would consider some of the side utlity and gear too though. Like if you want a goofy jump skill you can do some stuff with, if you like a charge attack or target blink, if you might find hide a useful ability or a slightly faster movement speed, and finally what gear the job you choose shares with - perhaps you find a job shares gear with another job you may be interested in later (like MNK/SAM).

NIN will always be a single slot in every party, they have far too much utility and are obligatory due to that. Stacking them is generally overkill though.

As for the other melee DPS, the answer is pretty much the same it has always been. Depends on the given content you're attempting to clear.

Well you see, playstyle I am WHM, always have and always will, with exception of RDM.

So this is my Alt. She was a BST and THF in FFXI. Im planning for her again to be the fire redhaired Tarutaru with a focus on DPS.

Pre 4.0 I know MNK had the best single target DPS it seems. DRG was more multi target but that isnt really used as much in endgame now, then NIN ive personally seen wipe things out in Frontline.

So just was wondering peoples thoughts on 4.0 so I can power up and give her some much needed attention. =D

I'd forget about NIN now in frontlines especially if that is what's attracting you to the class.. we had most of what made the class great in PVP removed or barred behind weird mudra requirements (i.e. Hide, on an even weirder timer to go in, and then a timer for the actual hide =..= ). NIN also had its gap closer removed, survivability is a joke now, etc. See the pvp forum for more.

So wait, things changed? MNK is now the AOE goto and DRG is the best single target DPS?

I thought before 4.0 it was vice versa?

To clarify, while pre 4.0 MNK had higher individual DPS than DRG, DRG's contribution to raid DPS vastly outshined MNK. Disembowel alone would add over 200 raid DPS for your BRD/MCH, over 400 for both. Not to mention Battle Litany (15% raid wide crit buff) while providing solid individual DPS. MNK was by far the least "ideal" melee to have, since it's own DPS couldn't touch all the raidwide DPS/utility that a DRG or NIN would provide.

A few things changed with SB. MNK now has a raid wide buff, albeit a small one (5% damage buff for all nearby party members except the user, for 15s), but it's potencies have been nerfed across the board. As neither me or anyone else is at endgame (Savage yada yada) yet it's hard to tell where it's at. DRG on the other hand, had Disembowel slightly nerfed (from 10% to 5% on piercing debuff), but still has Litany and got yet another support buff (10% damage buff to self, 5% for a chosen party member for 20s), so I believe it's gonna end up in a good place.

If you want a melee with very high burst/individual DPS, SAM seems the way to go.
