My thought is play anything you want.

    From here:
Any raid group that would reject a skilled player because it is nonmeta just sends off warning bells to me, and I'll leg it faster than light speed
I'm not a raider by any means since I just started a few months ago, but I really think it's a bad idea to play around what you think other people will want, because if you don't enjoy playing the job, what's the point? You should play what you enjoy.

I totally understand that mindset and it's usually my go to in other MMOs. My problem with that in XIV is that I enjoy just about every class...which is why I almost capped them all in the last expansion. >_< Having been a tank for the longest time has been amazing for 5 man content but I rarely found a raid group that needed a tank due to only needing 2 and PUGing raids isn't really that fun to me.

I don't think anyone can tell you the meta though because we haven't even hit the first raid yet. I think DRG or BRD are good picks in terms of utility.

I would really advise finishing 4.0 as a tank. THEN go play dps. You're not losing anything by tanking and by the time you finish, the queues will probably even out and you can give dps a go. Seriously, you'll thank yourself for it.

Unless you have a FC tank in your back pocket, you could literally double the amount that of time it would take to clear the content just waiting in DF queues.

There ara so many RDM and SAM atm because it's new, eventually people will go back to their "main" class.
If you can't decide between range of melee I suggest you test RDM, it can do both and you'll feel like a pintball, it's pretty fun

This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
