I am curious as to where the line between reasonable and unreasonable is. Is a 30 minute queue reasonable? What about 1 hour? 2 hours? 3 hours? 5? 10? At what point can we agree that the issue is less about player patience and more about a failing on the company's end? I only ask because I'm wondering when a thread like this can show up without people criticizing the person essentially paying to have their subscription times and fees wasted.
I think this was my frustration. I don't mind waiting to play 15m or 30m or more (insert said waiting period). My gripe was that even still now, I get randomly disconnected every 30m (or less) whether I'm in an instance or not, doing something active or not...doesnt' matter. sometimes I'll log in and get DC in 5m or less. often when my queue trickles down and it's my turn, I get a server login error, and I'm booted from the game, and I have to go through the queue again.

And I did start over on a low pop server....they have queue times too. Well, at least my queue wait time is less then my play time on the low pop server. It was frustrating on my main server to wait 30m, get in, then get booted in 15m no matter what I did. I've been a sub for years, I've been in more MMO early start and first releases then I want to count, and this was the first time that I considered unsubbing FFXIV until they got their stuff straight.

Please note that I'm not saying that it was the worst release...Diablo3 I think tops the charts for me. but it was a buy and play game. The only thing I could do about their release was gripe about my purchase. But here, I pay a monthly fee +almost that same fee again for my retainers. This is not just for a nice game. It's for all the other things that come along with a persistent world and an MMO. They should have servers stable enough to at least hold the traffic that they're supposed to hold. DC every 15-30m is unacceptable IMO. queue times? not enjoyed, but understandable.

    Edit:
While I'm not a Code guy, I am a Network Eingineer, and I've worked for some very large communication companies, So I know who large scale networks move and flow, and the challenges of implementing not just new software, but new hardware in a technology that is almost changing faster then you can get stuff put out on your network. Many companies have put aside the hope of maintaining extremely high levels of stability for the sake of keeping up in the market and the changing web, but it's always a balancing act. I can't say that I'm happy with the ultimate direction SE took with this. Everyone's going to have their threshold with certain things. It seems my threshold involves DC's and server stability. and they got real close with this one.

FYI: While typing that last paragraph, I was DC'ed twice on my low pop server. total time to type paragraph: 3 minutes, give or take a few seconds. um...yeah, not acceptable. And I was just crafting. Imagine if I was tanking an instance.

imagine the 3 hour wait times on our server!

This whole login issue needs to get addressed... it's driving me nutty. The problem is that everyone is then trying to find ways to keep themselves logged (due to the waiting time to get in) so they end up bottlenecking it even more!

The whole changing server thing isn't good enough either.. if places are overpopulated they should be offering options to transfer entire FC's now rather than "at some point in the future".
