Eureka: A primer on how not to be TFG, and be a better person

As someone that socially games in real life there is always a person that shows up at conventions and tournaments that everyone knows. It maybe he is the guy that tries to measure an extra inch, nicks the edge of a card sleeve, smells like bad shrimp wrapped in a diaper, or does some frowned upon social behavior so they become a species of celebrity. Not by name but behavior, they become the TFG, usually refereed to with a sneer, roll of the eyes, or heavy sigh as "Oh, that %&#*ing guy!" This is my own meager effort to help fellow players in Eureka to not be a TFG.

Realize there is a living breathing person on the other end of the keyboard/controller. They just like you have decided to dedicate time towards this and do not deserve the same treatment you would want.

    1. If you can raise someone raise them, there is no reason anyone should have to return back, change into a healer and raise a party member when half the party are healers.

    2. If you are standing on top of someones corpse, do mot insist they flag it or you will not raise.

    3. If someone shouts for a raise and they are less than a two minute hop you should at least make an attempt to raise them, not leave them begging and becoming frustrated. It takes a few seconds and you saved that person a lot of aggravation at losing work they had put in.

    4. If you have people who are under-leveled in your group help them out by offering rides or staying near them in case they draw aggro from a higher level mob. Do not do things like pop out your two seat mount then take off when they ask for a ride or approach. You where all in their position once, you should show some empathy.

That's just what I saw today, people complaining about toxicity in Eureka need to realize that it is self inflicted. It's not fun content but it should not be used as a carte blanche excuse to be a jerk. These people that are fellow travelers and have nothing to do with the game design.

Have a wonderful day, wonderful people.

This behavior largely didn't exist in Anemos. Myself and countless others would go across the map to help raise people because everyone knows how bad losing exp is. And it could be done because of how open the map was and how you could easily manipulate aggro management.

This has only become an issue since Pagos because of how terrible the map is laid out made worse by the fact that mounting is relegated to lvl 35.

No one wants to risk death themselves to slowly trot across a map to help someone else when every chokepoint is gated by a dragon.

This selfish behavior is a direct result of terrible design choices that only exist to pad out content.

    5. Don't drag your aggro into a tank's group pull in the hopes that his AOE will catch it.

    6. Don't drag your aggro into a FATE in the hopes that a stray AOE will take hate off you while you get credit on the NM.

This actually all happened in Anemos, though it was mostly people from Pagos grinding. It's leaking over

You should consider a few things here.

    1. The person may not be able to actually see them.
    2. The person may not actually see them. See: "somebody else's problem."
    3. They may be assuming you already have someone to raise you. If you don't, you should probably mark yourself. Related to SEP.

I even do 3 in alliance content because it's a pain to target people who aren't in my party.

    1. If you catch aggro from a dragon while a group is working on chaining them, don't run off with it. If you can then try to lead the dragon back to the group so they can grab it. If you die then you should receive a rez shortly.

    2. Please don't pull things like NMs just because you can, or just because you see people on the way. Additionally this applies to hunts outside of Eureka. <_<

    3. Whatever you do, if you're a designer/developer, do not make an area like Pagos turned out and expect most people to enjoy it, no matter how much they liked your other work.

Anecdotally, I almost always see folks trotting across a map to help someone else through chokepoints gated by a dragons. Someone calls out {Please help} {Raise} <pos>. A few mins later they call out {Thank you} {Raise}. Even when the <pos> is in a dragon gated zone.

When I trot, I also sometimes see others trotting with me to get to the <pos>. I even see that happen during NM back-to-back spawns. Someone(s) obviously gave up their light / exp to help rez their fellow Pagos adventurer.

I admit when I do the upper usagi and I get a location in the zomg cave areas I sometimes don't attempt it because it's too high risk and I rather not someone else dying to rez me if it goes south. If I do, then I take my chances and roll the dice.

Oh yeah just put all the blame on all the high to max level players in eureka since lower level players can't possibly do anything wrong! Dying in a high level zone that they have no reason to be in? Not looking at where they are going after being raised, then dying immediately afterwards in the same zone, and after the raiser have teleport-ed back? Cussing out at people for not coming to raise them for dying in narnia as if it's somehow high level player's responsibility to raise corpses regardless of the time and place? Nope nothing wrong with any of that at all.

It's just so much easier to put a blanket statement over the people that have finished the content and validate the people that are looking for an excuse to not do the content. You may think that what I've listed above are fringe cases that rarely happens in pagos but so is the examples OP have provided but for some reason people just love to latch onto cases where the lower level players are the victims instead of anything else.

Anemos wasn't nearly as bad, Anemos only had 1 dangerous part to wander, the western cave, and most people had no reason to go there so most deaths happened in easy to reach places. In Pagos no matter where someone dies there's a very long slow walk to get to them, being forced to toggle walk near every frost dragon and god forbid they die in Corse Rise, they might as well take the penalty unless a rdm or healer happens to be doing upper bunnies and happens to be heading there.

Also the design of Pagos revolving around chains means no one will leave their group to raise someone else and lose their chain, whereas Anemos left you with time between NMs to raise people.

This actually happened to me, went to raise someone who <pos>'d but couldn't see them. They sent me a tell after I ported very angrily asking why I didn't rez them.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
