Obviously I'm not losing sleep over it, however I think it's a pretty poor show from SE but to most else here it apparently doesn't reflect badly on the dev team at all. I mean ***** sake they don't even seem to be testing these patches properly.

    When was this?
First interview I clicked on. In response to a why should we pay question.

To clear a little up - the payment system will not be starting now, we just announced it now. We are planning on starting the payment system sometime in December, after patch 1.2. In 1.20, some of the major changes we will be making includes a more advanced player search and to get a market system as close to the Final Fantasy XI auction house as possible.

This will be before we start asking for payments.

Give them a fucking break man. I'd rather they have done it this way. A lot of players were complaining about why a showstopping bug for a single function that wouldn't make or break the game was preventing them from releasing an entire patch that contained a boatload of OTHER very important fixes and improvements. I was one of those players complaining as I was getting tired of waiting. Having them release the patch 90% complete and them effectively communicating to us that sorry, a certain function had to be disabled because it would delay the patch and/or cause showstopping bugs is better than them delaying the patch and pissing us off even more. If they delayed the patch, we'd have LESS time to evaluate the game before we make the ultimate decision of paying the $10/month for it.

What they did was a compromise to the community by allowing us to get access to the stuff that works now (and a lot of important stuff - especially the combat and synth changes) and evaluate the improved Market Wards later. I honestly don't think you need to evaluate the Market Wards for the same amount of time as you do the synth/combat system, so I'm ok with them going this way.

Yes, it's unprofessional of them to be giving us incomplete products (hello launch date FFXIV), but at this point, I'm not surprised. The dev team made a huge fucking mistake by setting too stringent a date for themselves, but at this point - again - it's probably that Stockholm syndrome kicking in for me. I'll take what I can get. Because as much crap I give Yoshida and the team for the way they're handling these patches, at least we got a game-changing patch with most of its features intact and relatively bug-free in our hands to test before the weekend.

Before you accuse me of being apologetic to Square, I'm someone who absolutely hates the "Yoshida can do no wrong and Square-Enix is a god that knows everything" white knight defenders (we have a lot of them in these forums, and they're even posting in this thread). I spend a lot of time trashing the bad parts of this game (and there are many) and calling others out when forum posters begin to act like they're worshipping the Temple of Yoshida, but even I know that the dev team has their limits, and that surprise surprise, they aren't gods of developing (nor of management, judging from their inability to meet patch deadlines). The Market Ward search is being pushed back - it's not going to be the end of the world for you - it's a convenience feature (that I yelled for since day one, mind you) but there's a LOT of other new content for you to evaluate while we wait for them to get this right.

See my sig. After billing starts, no more excuses for Square. But for this one, cut them some slack. We have something to play with for the next few days and from what I can tell, it's actually good.

That's the impression I'm getting with the way some of these patches are done. The weapon combo system, for example, seems to be using a lot of code from the old weaponskill system + buff/debuff system with a small bit of the "x skill or event is required to unlock y abilities to use on a weaponskill" feature from the old system, which sort of works but also to me feels kind of ghetto (but it's all they have to work with thanks to the old dev team's legacy).

With the way Market Wards are being worked on, I get a feeling Yoshida's team is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole that is guarded by a bunch of bear traps and set on top of a Jenga tower just for good measure.
