"An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV."

I got a window showing that after I teleported to Mor Dhona. It completely shuts the program off. And it keeps doing it when I keep trying to log in.

Has anyone else gotten this error? And if so, were you able to fix it?

A friend of mine can no longer get onto the game because of this problem. We've played FFXIV together for years and she's never had a problem with crashes prior to today, so it's difficult not to point to the 4.0 patch.

It occurred today on her first visit to the new Rhalgr's Reach zone - within her first few moments in that zone she crashed with this error:



..and she continued to have the same sort of crash every time she tried to log back in. Worse, we're on Balmung and the 3000+ queues take a few hours to get through, meaning she only had time for a few attempts throughout today.

After switching from the DX11 client to the DX9 client at the launcher, she was finally able to get back on long enough to successfully escape the zone. Away from the expansion areas things seemed to be back to normal, and (hoping the switch to the DX9 client had permanently resolved the problem) she attempted to return to the Rhalgr's Reach zone. But after returning and moving through Rhalgr's Reach for less than a minute she crashed yet again with this error message:



Between the queues and her new crashing problem I get the sense that she's a heartbeat away from giving up on this game entirely. I'm at a loss as to what advice to give her; she actually has a beefier computer than mine and I'm not having any crashes.

Thanks. I'll try to figure out how to do that. To be honest, unsubscribing has crossed my mind. I don't want to unsubscribe from this game, but this has been the most frustrating expansion launch I've ever dealt with, and I've dealt with some pretty frustrating ones in the past (World of Warcraft, Ultima Online).

I really am starting to wonder if someone on the development team typed that one wrong letter, or number, while coding this thing.

i got this error during doing the blow darts quest and already reported it in the bugs section of the forum. My only thoughts on this is that there is a memory leak in the new area, hopefully the emergency maint that we are in the middle of will fix that issue.

Got this yesterday while i alt tabbed in Azim Steppe. Just tabbing out and back in to the game.

I've had those happen on my old rig that I no longer raid on and my new. The only time I see those pasted errors are when I have discord running also to communicate with my raid team.

It's happening to a friend of mine even when she has nothing else running in the background, so I can't blame Discord for this one.

I turned everything off in the background on the old rig to see over the weekend and it still happened so I'd already ruled discord out. I did, however, still get the "an unexpected error has occurred in Final Fantasy XIV", seems to happen when I zone anywhere in the game now.

I remember seeing this over the weekend. I think they know about it. Have you tried launching it under DirectX9? I think that might work.
