We have strong warrior women, and we have the average amazonian, we also have the tall and elegant. We have the petite and perky and the petite with elegance. Both petite, much like we have two super tall races. If anything we need something to balance out the current line-up, that leads to not petite, but short.
And plenty already matches the dainty soft boy, especially the cats. We certainly need more gruff, and not some half-hearted gruff, like grizzly and rough.
So we need a race where we have something short, not just small, with strong women and especially grizzled men.
I wonder what races matches that.... (lali ho!)
Best you can hope for is beast tribe quests. I'm sure that's what we'll probably eventually get - the story already eludes to us being friendly with them while there could be potential for others to still side with the Garlean cause.
I like what little lore we have of them, and maybe if they were more humanoid it could work. But as it stands - both in a lore angle and a gameplay angle - it just wouldn't work.
Problem with that logic is the Au Ra. They look somewhat beastman-ish yet nobody brings it up in ARR, and it's really only brought up from HW on. It can be done like that, where it's never really mentioned until SB areas. Plus the Halloween event questline seems to hint at Eorzea being able to be okay with the Lupin.Best you can hope for is beast tribe quests. They look nothing like beastmen, they look like humans with horns and scales. Also remember Yugiri kept her face concealed, so the odd appearance was brought up in ARR.Problem with that logic is the Au Ra. Yet at the very beginning of the quest line, our introduction to the Lupin has villagers seeing him and fleeing. Getting to know one individual under a controlled situation is one thing, same can be said if you were to introduce the beastmen clans we make peace with. But without that controlled situation, without a special circumstance, anyone would see the Lupin as something to be wary of and either avoid entirely or act aggressively towards. Eorzeans can be a very squeamish and untrusting lot. There can be exceptions, but they are just that.Problem with that logic is the Au Ra. Before any other race is introduced i want Viera. There is more than enough support for it and concept art has already been unveiled.
Though, due to the recent announcement by Yoshi P. in regards to housing and server stability and infrastructure, the addition of expanded customization options for current races should be looked at. In the past, the excuse for limited character creation options was the strain it would put server side due to increase character data moving for one point to another.
The separation of eye and head gear, the addition of beards for males, body sliders (within reason, no disproportionate monstrosities ala Blade and Soul/ Aion, ect...), a hair customization system that allows for different sections of the head to mix and match hair styles (front, back, side accents.
(example: Tekken hair combination preview)
Primary, secondary, and accent dye options for weapons and armor, weapon glow/ aura effect glamours, expansion of character interaction emotes (implemented like the ride pillion option, /carry, /dance, ect...).
but Viera first SE... we have waited long enough.

I support this. We need more beast like races.
I don't mind the Viera, but I eventually also want a race that's not too human or super cutesy looking. I'd just love fighting alongside a beast like Kimahri.

That, i see as the problem, and the most realistic outcome the would happen if more beast like races are introduced (even if that's not how you meant it). Most would only like to fight along side them. Not play as them, and why would you? Less if not non-existent facial animations, during many cut scenes this can actively make certain story elements seem absurd due to the interactions being done with characters who have frozen faces, unable to match the expression needed to convey emotions.
Look at this, tell me you believe this love story.

True SE would do a better job, and yes such bonds can and do exist. However for the amount of players that would actually play as a more bestial race, some could very easily argue the the development time could and should be spent elsewhere.
Yes Viera are another waifu race, i do understand that, however they fit the setting of this game. i, in my opinion do not feel this does.

Personally i have always wanted to play as a type of Were Boar as i'm fairly certain no one else would (though i admit freely that i could be wrong)
.
The most beast like i can see SE/ FF going as far as playable races would be that of which was introduced in Bless Online's Pantera/ Lupus race

For a playable race it just makes more sense to add concepts that better complement one another rather that diametrically oppose one another, hence the opinion that Viera should be would be a natural fit. It's what by and far the player base prefers , if race polls are any indication.
