Well, here's the easy advice, find things in demand to sell for money. Now for the hard part, what's in demand changes all the time, additionally asking other people what sells well just doesn't work as one or two people could corner the market on a specific item they are farming for the most part.

I find I get a lot of mileage out of selling random enemy drops from doing other activities, also, converting soulbound equipment into materia is a handy way to make some gil. Retainer ventures also give you a nice random selection of things that sell for a decent amount once they get up there in level.

You could also level gatherer and crafter classes. Despite what you might think, what makes you money isn't necessarily what is high level, but more often just whatever is in demand at the time. For me personally I find there is quite some gil to be made in lazy crafters. Gathering materials that are used in a wide variety of crafts like walnut logs makes for a stable if not lucrative income. Also, once your crafting level gets up there you can make some quick cash in some cases by buying up stacks of a base material and converting it into an intermediate crafting material (in this case it would be logs into lumber). Though with this it would be wise to check the prices and calculate what your profit would be as in some cases you would lose money.

Also, don't overlook the money gained from completing roulettes and challenges. It's not much but it's stable.

Level Discipline of the Hand and Land. Level all classes at a same pace, soo each support other and you do not have to spend money on mats. Before Stormblood you could had done Diadem and exchange spoils for Level 5 Materia. Critical Hit was selling at 100k per one and you could had made 2-3 millions in one day, if you were lucky. Adding fishing there where fish did cost 30k to 60-70 for HQ and you could had catch around 30-40 would set you up even more. Now best thing after finishing Stormblood scenario is to level DoL and DoH same way and then sell things. Also making and selling minions can help you a lot. Most cost from 100k to a million.
