I think something that SQEX messed up with this expansion was balancing class functionality between old and new content. It feels like they sacrificed class functionality in old content in order to balance their new job skills. It's not just DRK or tanks in general. Most classes, especially Tanks/Healers, but even some DPS, are terrible now when played at lower levels. In the case of DRK, they butchered its entire playstyle, and by the looks of it, the intention was to not just nerf it a bit, but to move certain skill purposes to feeding new job mechanics. Like with Blood Price being useful for the Blood Gauge. Well that's great and all... when we actually have a Blood Gauge to use it on! Without the Blood Gauge, it feels like we're playing a gimped class. As a healer main, I feel like I'm healing less on average (perhaps due to some rebalancing around the Tenacity stat, which tanks haven't maxed out on yet?). I also feel like I'm running out of MP way faster than before. Skill-wise, things aren't as bad as for Tanks, but our role skills are funky as well. I can only cast Protect by Swap-casting it with a macro. I have to pick and choose between Surecast, Rescue, and Eye for an Eye. But as I unlock my 61-70 skills, they fill in the inherent weaknesses I've been experiencing.
In any case, it's frustrating that SQEX seems to be giving in to the popular movement. I suppose they think that people will "mostly" play Stormblood content, and that any runs of older content will be unsynced with the exception of roulettes. Therefore, they feel like they can sacrifice the game's Lv1-60 job functionality. These changes are a recipe for dead content though. Some players actually like to enjoy their old content for what it was. And new players still need to get through it. In Heavensward, the experience was new players was already a little slow, with most classes lacking depth until 50+ and dungeons being very straightforward and easy. Now that experience will be compounded by making the 50-60 content also feel like you're playing an incomplete class.
