When am I supposed to use Total Eclipse?

Since this skill does not have added enmity, when am I supposed to use this? Is there a certain number of enemies where this becomes the optimal ability to use?

It just seems weird to me that they wouldn't replace flash with this, flash is such a boring skill besides the blind effect.

It sounded to me like an AoE Provoke. So, use it like you would Provoke, on multiple targets?

When you get a big pack of mobs (more than 3) you use Flash first a few times to gain enmity and then spam Total Eclipse and your other off GCDs like Circle of Scorn and Spirits Within. It's actually really nice that PLD can help out with a bit of dmg now on huge pulls.

Initially no, think of it as the AOE equivalent to royal authority

Whenever there's 3+ mobs and you're out of MP, use Total Eclipse.

In terms of pure potency, it's better to use Holy Spirit than Total Eclipse unless there's 4 or more targets (5 or more if buffed by Requiescat), but ofc, you only get to use it a couple of times because you need the MP for Flash, and you'll also need MP for the next pull to keep hate. You'll have to make that resource management decision yourself.

Flash is an amazing skill BECAUSE of the blind effect. Having both flash and total eclipse is amazing. Flash for very high aoe threat and defense, then spam eclipse for damage on aoe pulls. It doesn't have added enmity but flash has a lot, and if you're in shield oath it multiplies your enmity anyway.

The simple answer would be "as much as you can on aoe pulls without losing threat, running out of tp for following pulls, or dying".

Useing Holy Spirit technically is a potency gain but if you use total Eclipse and any of them cause a direct/critical hit there potency suprases Holy Spirit. You also have a higher chance of criting them hitting multiple mobs than just the one. Really useing a 2x flash + circle should be enough of a lead to maintain aggro whiel you spam eclipse. I had very little problams in dungeons doing this. Circle does give enimity and is off GCD. if you need to hit flash every 5 eclipses to top ur hate off but most mobs should be dead before you hit eclipse 10+ times. unless ur DPS are just blah.

I've seen some sick returns on this so far, for this reason. Before, you lead with multiple Flashes, screwing over the duration because of resist. Now, you can lead with 1 Flash, spam TE until the Blind wears off, then reapply.

It doesn't have an Enmity multiplier, but it doesn't need one with a Flash lead and Shield Oath, at least for a good few hits.
