Expansions: Do We Really Need 10 Levels (vs. 5)

I've been thinking about this lately, and I really cannot justify a whole 10 levels any longer. Other longer-lasting MMOs have also reduced down to 5 levels, but it appears to be good reason: there's just too much extra junk to get through to level to cap.

And I think this is half of the problem of our "jump potion" problem -- we bombard ourselves with unnecessary fetch quests to help level our MSQ and there's no reason for it. By increasing the amount of XP needed per those 5 levels, and putting more focus on leveling, they can double the XP as needed when leveling becomes a burden.

    Thoughts?

10 levels isn't so bad. For us hardcore players we can never have too much content. It's a stress reviler , and they make it it worthwhile. For someone who works 2 jobs and goes to school it's a blessing :P

The amount of levels is entirely irrelevant to how much work it is to level up. That is solely determined by the total amount of xp needed to reach max level compared to the rate at which you can gain said xp. If they decided to make it only 5 new levels in an expansion, it would likely take about twice as much work per level. The number of levels only really matter for giving a sense of progression while working your way towards the max.

I, for one, would not like there to be only 5 levels in an expansion, since that would make the leveling feel slower, due to the time between noticeable milestones being about twice as long.

This is supposedly the final add and change to the skill sets.
Future expansions may be shorter and more difficult.

Why would it matter? The time spent going through 10 levels would very likely be the same as the time spent going through 5 levels. They wouldn't just suddenly cut the time spent leveling by half.

It's not like there's an actual difference, as the exp required for each, and the rate at which that exp can be gained, is wholly arbitrary.

Would you rather end up with a 0 at the end or a 5?

I'll take 0 for consistency, especially if the game isn't likely to survive for more than another 3 expansions.

It is just a number really. If they wanted to surpass lvl 99 at some point, they could just as easily do that. 10 levels or 5 levels. It doesnt really matter.

Technically there's no reason to add levels to the game at all, nothing in it requires them.

They've already decided to add skills by merging/replacing existing ones, that eliminates the primary need for more levels; even without levels you can add additional skills through quests. All the higher levels bring is bigger numbers which is easily accomplished by ilvl if you really need to have those bigger numbers. In reality the bigger numbers change nothing. You do more damage, the mobs have more HP, still dies in the same time. You have more HP, the mobs do more damage, you still live the same time....these things don't really change with higher levels.

All the other skill changes happen independent of level changes. Non skill changes aren't affected by level changes. Combat isn't affected by level changes...so why raise it? People just want bigger numbers.

So 5 levels, 10 levels, 50 levels, its all the same to me.

But I can promise if they tried adding an expansion without more levels people would claim it as the next death of FF14.
