MMO Vet / New to FFXIV Questions

    Hello,

I recently started playing FF, and had a couple quick questions. First off, I've been playing different MMOs for years, so I have the experience to pick things up rather quick.

1). Is there any mentors (Diabolos) that could assist me with more in-depth questions.
2). How is the PvP scene? I've mainly PvPd in almost every other MMO.
3). I've mained support / healers in every other MMO for the most part and was wondering how is their standing here
4). Are there QoL addons / websites that help if one gets stuck?

I have tons of other questions but don't want to take up loads of forums space.

    Thanks,

    Xyn

    My friend, your desire
Is the bringer of life, the gift of the goddess

Even if the morrow is barren of promises
    Nothing shall forestall my return

    1. Probably tons, just ask for an invite to the Novice Network in /sh in any major city.
    2. Was pretty bad, but with the 4.0 major changes, what little Ive done I thought was better than it used to be. This will be a wait and see thing.
    3. Still important, though support is more of a subtitle rather than a main thing. Some jobs are support heavy others a bit lighter on the facet. Don't listen to the doomsayers, play em all and stick with what resonates with you.
    4. Addons, ninevthat are legal. Useful sites and out of game tools, plenty, we can help you more if you specify what kind of stuff youd like a site for. Most of this stuff gets pretty topic specific, the good ones at least.

    1. Hall of Novice network helps the new players out. The NPC with the green leaf over their head in the major cities is who you need to see.

    2. Pretty bad, even with the changes to when you can start. There's the feast (but I think that's still 60+) which is an 8 man arena match (basically) with some fun things and two battleground type things that you can queue for when your 30+. They are working on it though so it might improve.

    3. There are three healer classes (sch is kind of like disc priest in WoW, whm is like holy prist in WoW, and Ast is a combo of the two with RNG buffs added in.) There's two real support classes as well: bard and mech. They do less dmg overall but the buffs they bring make them worthwhile to take. FFXIV is nice in that you can change jobs at will and a lot of the classes share gear sets. You can level all three healers up and have basically one set of gear, which allows you to switch to what's needed in your group. You don't lose the time you invest in one character if a new patch or expac kills your fun in that class. You just switch and hope for buffs or changes later.

    4. No addons. I've heard Yoshi-P kind of dither on this but so far it's still stayed no addons. Which means dungeons and raids aren't as complicated in games like WoW and they depend more on telegraphed spells. Not necessarily a bad thing -- addons forced WoW to be ultra creative in that area but you don't get that support here do it still feels complicated.
