wierd cpu problem

ok not sure if here is the best place for this but here goes. just today ive been having a problem where my i7 950 underclocks itself to 1.6 while in game cause my fps to drop to 20 fps my temps are not high so thats not the problem ive seem to be able to stop it from happening if i disable hyperthreading speedstep and C1E state sorry for a lot of text.

specs are
i7 950 3.2 ghz
6 gb ram
asus sabertooth X58
580 gtx

in short cpu underclocks to 1.6ghz during game turned off hyperthreading speedstep and C1E

Have you checked your power management settings in Windows?

yes high performance it has never done this before

a fellow LS mate had a similar problem, he did some troubleshooting and for some reason his psu was going out. i'm not tech savy n don't know much about these problems, but thought i'd pass the word along even if it may have no bearing on this problem.

hmm that could make sense especially since my pc randomly shut down the other day i was thinking that was it but i wanted to get confirmation on it to make sure it wasnt a cpu/motherboard problem

if with speedstep OFF CPU continue o underclock is a safety feature that slow down CPU when your PSU can't give enough power to processor
