It's not exactly defending, it just feels like you guys never took part of the launch of any other online game before this one. This things happens a lot, all wow launchs were a disaster except legion, diablo 3 were a disaster, watch dogs online mode worked only days later, the division, archeage...
with this we can conclude that its not as easy to be prepared to this things as you guys think.
What will show if SE is competent or not is the speed in which they fix all of that, wow took almost a week in Draenor to fix most of the annoying problems.

To me, this is normal.
This is why you don't call out sick on an MMO when it's just release. It's been like this since 1998.
However, these folks have all the answers; i would heavily suggest they apply to Square Enix (and other mMOs). I am sure they would love your expertise.
