Brand New PlayerGlad/Mara & Conj Mix to Max Level

Hi All FFXIV Players from Shyla.
I am SUPER new to FFXIV, since it plays way different from WoW and EQ. I have played FFVII and FFXIII. SOOOO I do understand some FF terms. So far this game is fabulous, but I do have some major questions.

First, has anyone dual classes to top level? I know class changes are coming, but I really like being a mix of healer/warrior. So I was going to try leveling Marauder/Glad mix..with dabble in Pug (Second Wind)..and supplementing with Conj. for heals. Basically main two are Glad/Conj. = Paladin. I was just wondering from more experienced players if this feasible to do?

Second, Are there any guilds or I guess they are called Linkshards, that are looking for new players. I am on the Mysidia server. I really want a guild with active members because I do ask questions and would love any guild looking to help new players....I am not looking for guildmates just to give hand outs or stuff like that....just knowledge and help with in game content. I love to play with other players, and I have played healing or tanking roles in other games. Thank you all for listening all and hope to see you in the game.

    Sincerely,
    Shyla Dragonmane

Since it's so close to patch day any help may be irrellevent soon. That being said almost everyone will level multiple classes, the best for soloing being conj until you get some form of heals and buffs, any free self healing is pretty big, second wind and bloodbath. gladiator will give you defensive cooldowns and buffs, while marauder will retain high defense should you decide to play that, but also brings a nice punch in damage compared to gladiators pitiful accuracy and damage. 1 ability you may want to invest in is Invigorate from lancer, for when you "stall" or don't generate tp fast enough, as the Ambidexterity+Outmaneuver combo comes late for gladiator. again patch is very soon and may change a lot.

If you're looking into becoming a paladin that will require 15 mrd and 30 gla as per the forums post about jobs, unless that has changed.

FFXIV is a bit different, in that it's probably a good idea to get every class to 10 or so for abilities and to try them out. Here are the key abilities available up to 10 from each class before the patch:

    PGL (Pugilist)
    6: Second Wind (250TP -> HP, 45s recast)
10: Taunt (Pulls hate from target temporarily, 60s recast)

    GLA (Gladiator)
4: Rampart (massive defense boost for 60s, 300s recast)
10: Provoke (large emnity boost, 20s recast)

    MRD (Marauder)
6: Bloodbath (restores roughly half the damage from your next offensive ability, 45s recast)
10: Defender (Boost defense, but lowers damage, lasts for 30m or until recast, also boosts emnity if a marauder and haven't moved in a while, i.e. when Steadfast)

    ARC (Archer)
4: Raging Strike (boost damage of next offensive ability, 30s recast)
10: Quelling Strike (reduces emnity generated by next offensive ability, 30s recast)

    LNC (Lancer)
4: Ferocity (consumes HP to boost damage of next offensive ability, 60s recast)

    CNJ (Conjurer)
4: Cure (heals HP, 5s recast)
6: Stoneskin (buff, blocks a fixed amount of damage, long cast time)
8: Shock Spikes (buff, stuns and damages attacking enemies)

    THM (Thaumaturge)
4: Sacrifice (Consumes HP to heal more HP and regenerates additional HP for a short while, 5s recast)
10: Punishing Barbs (damage received is also dealt to the attacker for 15s, 180s recast)

I'm leaving out a few, Raise (CNJ14) and Invigorate (LNC14) come to mind, but these are below 10. I also may have a few of the durations wrong, but only by a little.

And here's after 1.20 (Probably Friday, maybe Monday, maybe Saturday?):

    PGL
2: Featherfoot (massive evasion boost for 30s, fades and restores MP on successful evade, 60s recast)
    6: Second Wind (same)

    GLA
4: Rampart (same, but also boosts emnity, 120s recast)

    MRD
2: Foresight (boost parry rate for 30s, fades upon successful parry, 60s recast)
6: Bloodbath (probably same, maybe better rate, 60s recast)

    ARC
2: Decoy (Consumes MP to evade a single ranged or magic attack. Recast Time: 90sec. / Duration: 60sec.)
    6: Hawk's Eye (Increases physical accuracy. Recast Time: 90sec. / Duration: 15sec.)

    LNC
6: Blood for Blood (see Ferocity)

    CNJ
    2: Cure (same)
    6: Protect (buff, increases defense)

    THM
6: Necrogenesis (Bloodbath for attack magic)

The abilities after the patch are present in the 1.20 patch notes, available from the main page, and I'm just guessing they'll be the most important non-exclusive abilities learned before level 10 after 1.20.

Also, ssppiikkeeyy is right, post on your server's forum saying you're looking for a Linkshell and you can probably get in touch with someone. Also try politely shouting in Ul'dah every once in a while.

( "Linkshell"?: The name has to do with how they were incorporated into the lore of FFXI. Each player in a linkshell has a magic pearl, called a 'linkpearl', that allows them to communicate with the whole group. Those that can invite others carry a sack of such pearls in addition to their own. I believe the item you purchased to form one actually looked like a colored, faintly-glowing seashell, hence the name. In FFXIV they are free, and there's no explicit mention of them being shells, but the name is the same. You can be a member of up to 8 at once, but only be talking in one at a time. The upcoming Free Company system is more exclusive, but may more closely resemble the concept of a guild from other MMOs. )

you went into more detail then i did lol, but the suggestion of foresight is only good if 1 fore goes the shield, since yoshi said gla is married to shield now, its not so hot, foresight that is, unless you have heard that gla's can parry again with shields

Oh that's right. I suppose it's still useful on other classes. By the time I decided to make a list I had just decided to post all the useful cross-class abilities below 10 and had lost sight of OP's particular goals. Thanks for reminding me that you can't parry with a shield equipped.
