    Eye for an Eye

I don't feel this should have been a role ability. Scholars still have a job ability, deployment tactics, that's tied to eye for an eye which I feel obligated to take as a sch, but the only ability I feel I can drop for it is lucid dream, but now our MP management has taken a huge hit and I'm not sure if I can get by without it now.

It makes little sense to me why eye for an eye isn't just a class ability for scholars. A small chance for a small damage reduction isn't something that any healer can use effectively other than scholars and even then I feel I'm going to drop it for lucid dream anyway.

It seems odd to leave deployment tactics the way it is then take eye for an eye away from scholars.

Eye for an Eye was already a cross-class skill like Protect, so honestly it's probably the most appropriate for cross-role outside of Virus, which we won't talk about.

ACN didn't really have many cross-class choices worth mention other than those two anyway.

I can understand both of these points and quite honestly I feel like eye for an eye is supposed to be a cross role ability because its biggest strength comes from the additional mitigation provided during a trash pull and little else(sure its nice for boss fights but lets be real, we are only gonna throw it on the tank). Instead to make up for that scholar should've gotten some sort of different mitigation ability as a spell that works with deployment, like 3rd eye but cast on a single target(basically a minor shield for a single attack) as the only time you really use deployment is for a big hit and having a shorter cool down mitigation to assist with tank busters would feel good and rewarding.

update; was reading through the skills and thought it would be cool since it would for the most part just be a single target sacred soil in a sense(except that it wouldnt last very long) maybe it could have a small chance at reduced adlo cost or even crit adlo assurance like how the other two healers have special cases in a similar way to how sacred soil has a 20% chance to make succor a free cast.

Or they should have kept stoneskin as a role ability instead of eye for an eye

I understand, I very much miss stone skin, but more often than not it was to much MP and it only served the purpose of keeping NPC's with ridiculous health pools alive or maintaining HP while soloing low level content as a high level character, clever healers could weave it in before a tank buster but for the most part it was just a set up ability. (however it should have probably stayed in the game but it does open up the creative liberties of shields a lot more, RIP WHM) And another note, Stone Skin and Eye for an Eye are completely different effects strategically.(but you probably know this enough)

I wonder if Eye for and Eye was in that pool of skills they were considering. I know I saw in an interview Yoshi-P said he fought to keep protect as a Role Skill... Why, They anted to remove it, couldn't the extra mitigation just be built into the system? And yeah I feel like as a Scholar I'm forced to bring it, since Deployment Tactics still works with it. Why not just remove it and place Deployment on a shorter CD, as it is right now E4aE and DT don't line up time-wise anymore.

I completely agree, e4e should have stayed a scholar skill. Stoneskin could have stayed cross-class, or heck even Virus. But since e4e is tied in with one of our skills, it's a waste for scholar NOT to take it.

I don't understand why people think it's so hard to take E4E. You can easily just swap Protect and E4E as needed.

you can (if you talk bout the macro) but not having protect available in fights can be a hugh backdraw... dunno how many healers would take the risk without a doubt... : /

Basically, SE tried to break the Meta, or in their eyes, fix it, with the role skills. But the issue is that, there will always be a meta, and without coordination, the average player is going to choose the top 5 skills for that job. Swapping out an ability here and there is "fine" but if you need to swap for every instance you encounter its going to get very tedious and forgetful; not to mention who wants to continually swap the slots on their hotbar, wasn't that the very reason for the PvP changes? Choosing the top 5 skills will get you through most content, regardless of who you are with. Those will be skills in the new meta to come. They removed some useless skills (and some useful ones, Sustain), and they replaced/added new useless skills into the role system. There were very few skills in the old cross class system that were "mandatory", so a SCH not having Blizzard II isn't as bad as them not having Cleric Stance; and a DRK not having Bloodbath isn't as bad as not having Provoke. The new Role skills shouldn't be choose 5 it should be once you are at that level you can use it, just like when we level up normally. Then if we choose to place it on our bars or not is our choice.
