I mean, I've still got crafters and gatherers I could be working on, so if it comes down to it, I just take a break from all that stuff til the chaos quiets down.

I think you're overreacting. Yeah, it's bad right now, but it's literally the first day of early access for a new expansion. In many ways, we're unofficially performing a sort of "stress test" for how they need to tweak their servers. This is also the first time we've seen maps in this game divided into separate "channels" to combat congestion.
The MSQ bottleneck is also implemented partially on purpose. It was anticipated to be a measure to prevent a much more disruptive server-wide crash. Granted, maintaining a stable connection at all is pretty dicey right now, but they're working on it. There's no telling when the issue will reach lasting stability and get things back to normal, but in the mean time there is literally no point in acting like the sky is falling and the game will always be like this. Calm down.

1. There is 328 threads on this one topic alone. Trust me..we're all experiencing it
2. This is an MMO. Sh*t happens when things get first released.
3. Everybody who on the 20th is pretty much playing now (and the ones who are not buying the game until the 20th, I am pretty sure the issues will be worked out. It has been worked out after every expansion early release)
4. Yoshi already apologized and his apologies are sincere. They are working on it
The end of the world has not happened.
Wishing I hadn't introduced my girlfriend to this game so I could have quit by now and avoided Stormblood entirely. I almost feel like my WHM was sullied by 4.0; a part of me wishes I'd canceled prior to the "update" so she could be preserved in some sort of electronic stasis.
This might sound like hyperbole, but it really isn't. I'm sick and tired of SE's technical incompetence. Their storylines are great, their world is beautiful, but none of it matters if you can't enter an instance or stay connected. Coupled with their heightened focus on making this game accessible to even a trained monkey, and I'm just counting the days until my girlfriend loses interest so that I can cut the game out of our nightly routine and cancel.

Well, yes, that was my exact point with all this. I mean, is it a crappy situation? Absolutely. Will getting mad and throwing a fit help anything? Not even slightly. We just need to appreciate the reality of the situation, pull a TV tropes "this is gonna suck", and wait it out. I was mostly just curious as to what everyone else was doing in regards to that last point. Like me, personally? I'm playing Homeworld 2 again and watching Star Blazers 2199. My Hiigarin Space Banana might not be the Yamato, but it packs a mean wave motion gun under the hood.
