I wish there was an easy way to test it, at best I can do things like. Go to Hall of Novice, 0 effort to get into the instance, queues up like a duty and I'm in. So in all honesty, this is just poor design. SE could create better server synergy because there are a lot of wasted open spaces.
Think of it like parking a car for a sports event, what if the parking lot is not enough? Then they allocate parking to another area that isn't being used, why don't they do this with other server instances? I feel like if I can get into Hall of novice with 0 effort, then entering a solo MSQ instance should be easy as well, there is no reason why an instance should be capped at whatever it is. They should allow an instance which has a heavy load to borrow from other instance treshold to be able to support more.
So let's say the cap is 100, the cap is reached, they grab from content that isn't done as often, and allocate instances for this instance from those instances. So now you have say 500, but 50 less of a handful of instances. But if they did something like this it would be better than the current system which seems to put a cap on the amount of instances 1 piece of content can have.
And honestly that would be my question, why can I solo queue into hall of novice and yet I can't solo queue into a MSQ, why is there data capable of creating an instance for one content but not the other, to me this just appears to be an inefficient system.
If you want to compare resources, even F2P MMOs like Wildstar, Guild Wars 2, etc have mega servers. They make FAR less money than FF14. SE needs to be a little grateful because other MMO companies would kill to have this many subscribers. It's so annoying to witness that I wish it was a law for subscription based services to provide proof that they are spending their monthly income to good use. For 4 years, this is the second most popular P2P MMO and we have worse issues than F2P MMOs like server congestion, lack of storage, bad glamour system, housing bandwidth problems (F2P MMOs give free housing to everyone), etc.
I tend to agree, but we did pay early to access early, and access should include the entirety of the game. Your point is still valid though, it's certainly not the end of the world and we should have a tiny bit of patience.
There is no reason for any game company to upgrade servers to accommodate a population that will only normalize in a month or two. This is day 1 congestion that will ease in a matter of days. Your minor inconvenience hardly justifies expenditure of Millions yen and man hours just to give you a few days of smooth gaming you normally get any other time anyways.
The main problem is the influx of temporary players. By that I mean the people who return to play the game for a couple of weeks when a new expansion launches then leave til the next expansion. We saw it at the start of 3.0 and we are seeing it now. These problems will remain til these players start to leave and things settle down. Unfortunately the regulars have to endure it til then.
So much this. I like the idea of having something to connect everything together, when I tried WoW a couple of years ago it felt just like a bunch of dungeons and nothing else. But xiv takes this to the opposite extreme, with literally everything cockblocked by a long-ass solo story that, frankly, has no place in an MMO. The main quest should be optional, if they intend to keep the ludicrous amount of dialogue/cutscenes/solo instances (imeanreally, SOLO instances in a Massively MULTIPLAYER online game) that they currently use, IMO.
Personally I'd like to see them move away from instances entirely, having open-world dungeons, challenging bosses, treasures to find, all that good stuff without being stuffed into a duty all the time.
Once early access is over then have all ones that didn't pre order doing all the stormblood quests and then it be back to how it is today.
I agree - but they don't need to. It's not difficult to rent server resources for a week from dozens of physical or virtual providers in and around California. That would take care of the issue - and once the week or two is up, everything's over. It's quite ignorant to suggest that their only option is to purchase the servers permanently, or have us suffer at the launch of every expansion. There is no reason for any game company to upgrade servers to accommodate a population that will only normalize in a month or two.
