Pretty much this.
When World of Warcaft has launch issues they are *usually* fixed in 4-6 hours. We're on hour 15, with no plan in sight other than "Come back Later, K?"
This is NOT a surprise to SE. Unless they some how lost the number of pre-orders they sold, they knew EXACTLY how many people would be logging in during EA and should have been able to draw reasonable inferences usingPAST data of how congested the MSQ instances would be.

They let X number of people ONTO a server and then when it causes problems say "there's too many people". They never say that when they're taking your monthly payments, though.
I did want to add though, I appreciate Yoshida responding, I really do. It's nice to hear them acknowledge the issue but ultimately I don't blame him at all. He's not the person whose job it is to maintain server infrastructure or manage the technical side of things (presumably, I don't know his full skill set!), I'd be more interested in hearing from them.
Although there aren't many times where some major bug requires compensation, this is definitely one of them, especially when in 2014, Blizzard Entertainment compensated World of Warcraft players with a week's worth of game time for a circumstance almost exactly like this with the only difference being a DDoS attack on them, which was beyond their control but didn't have as much of an impact as the bugs that prevented players going forward with the early portion of the main questline. For those of you opposed to getting compensation for a massive bug like this one, regardless of whatever reason you come with, please know that that kind of behavior is one of the reasons promoting more issues like this arising and ruining gameplay experiences for all of us no matter how much you go on about having patience or that "this is an open beta" nonsense.
As for the fix to this though, I'd have no problem whatsoever if they knocked out a full day to fix this and any other potential issue like this that may come up. Couldn't care less if that spoils that early access time, because for some, it already is.
I am not seeking an apology, I am looking for them to fix this shit. An apology will not get me past that quest, neither will it stop those recurring players from leaving.
This can never happen ever again, they have to learn from this mistake.
I am really angry here so I am trying to censure myself, so I will say it like this... what a god damn PR mess you guys made, the trust you lost will take time to rebuild and it will hurt the game in the long term if you do not show some serious goodwill here and I am not talking about words for those are cheap.
My question for you though is, what is there to hear from them? Bandwidth/server limitations are always the culprit here. The only answer to remedy it is to spend money on more, which from a business stance, is a pretty pointless venture. Customers not getting perfect access does not constitute a temporary and (probably) expensive fix for a problem that does not last. The explanation you'd get is almost certainly going to be what you can read in the server congestion updates. Servers are not bottomless bags of resources.I did want to add though, I appreciate Yoshida responding, I really do. It's nice to hear them acknowledge the issue but ultimately I don't blame him at all. He's not the person whose job it is to maintain server infrastructure or manage the technical side of things (presumably, I don't know his full skill set!), I'd be more interested in hearing from them.
Don't get me wrong though, if they have the budget to do it, it'd be nice... but as someone that deals with annual budgets being controlled by other people that penny pinch, I can imagine it's kind of hard to change their mind on something unnecessary. I mean, we are talking about a situation where the problem is a result of funneling players through content, creating a problem that necessitated a bottleneck limit. Once that's been dealt with and people spread out more, it probably won't be an issue, hence why it's probably acknowledged as temporary (for now).
