actually i can download patch quite fast.
the most troublesome thing on reinstalling is, differently from ffxi where you could save the folder and then move it without re-download everything, here the same process don't work. In 2.0 consider to do something to easly reinstall the game without download patches from scratch

I haven't figured out the darn patch folders quite yet. I thought I manually repair a bad installation across two computers. I was able to log in, see the world, but my keyboard settings were erased and would not allow me to set them. I resigned to re-installing that instance of FFXIV.

That's odd... it worked for me on my two PCs and my friend's PC yesterday.

It could be as easy as the patcher asking you if you would like to keep an applied patch file for possible reuse, then asking for a directory to put it.

Then you store it wherever you want, on a reinstall the patcher asks you if you want to specify a local directory to look for existing patch files before downloading them. If any patch file doesn't pass an integrity test it's simply redownloaded.

Much like how Microsoft released the Windows 7 Service Pack 1 disc that has the majority of the updates already installed, a FF14 disc that contains all the updates already installed would be a very great gesture to the fans.

Show the fans that you care about them and that their time is valuable

Make playing the game easier for new players. Taking 3 hours to install the game might just drive some new players away.

It won't make a lick of difference regarding piracy since you need a valid key to play the game anyway.

Release it either as a burnable ISO, or just a big fat install program.

It won't be that hard to do. I'm sure you can manage it.

    We would be quite grateful.
Just make a request-thread on a certain torrent-sharing website. Viola!

What I'm asking for is a single install that has all the patches already inside it so that I don't have to download anything else once I finish the disc install.

I don't want the retail release install + the patch files in a folder. I'd still have to install all the patches anyway.

Well like someone said, the single install thing probably will only happen every couple of years when SE bundles old expansions into the game's disc, but I guess someone motivated enough could easily maintain an unofficial full installer, the gain seems small though.

I think they already have redone the game discs at any rate, as when I was in the store during the weekend the box art has ifrit fight on it, so I would imagine they are new discs.

You can still save the patch files. Backup them before patches are installed (because they get deleted after install).

That sounds too convenient and straight forward for a Square Enix product. If it doesn't involve at least 12 steps, using an external software and editing your registry, then it won't happen.
