How do you explain the other design choices that are resource based like the choice to refresh inventory ever X second and housing being open world. This is a team that doesn't plan for what they have and people like you give them a pass. Sad just sad.
Where do you get the idea that I'd give them a pass? They absolutely need to design systems that can handle their normal expected load, which is exactly what I said. (And I've made lots of complaints in more relevant threads regarding features where they've failed to do so.)

The issue here is completely different, though. It's NOT a normal load. And that's causing technical problems. But they are technical problems rather than design ones. If I'm wrong about it being just the load, and even under normal (or anywhere near normal) circumstances, this quest would still fail just due to how it's designed, then I'll agree they messed up on designing it that way.

Number of sales? the fact this happened before several times? the design flaw was putting a solo instance so soon. They should know better by now and unlike wow this is their second MNO

I do not see the effect of an upgrade, I think they are just saying that. Nothing improved, input commands are still delayed and other things.
(I am talking about the normal input delays that happen at 0 ping that people have problems seeing for some reason)

That's a pretty silly way of looking at it to be honest. If you were working at a job and they hired on some seasonal temps to help out and then told you: "Hey sorry, but we can't pay you this month like we normally would because our payroll is experiencing a load that isn't normal, you'll have to wait for next month to get paid." You certainly wouldn't be understanding about it.

And why should you? Before a company should do something that impacts their workers, they customer base, etc they are supposed to take a look at what possible outcomes could occur and plan for it. In this case, they knew the servers would be hammered by players and that this would be a massive bottleneck because they themselves said they designed in this way on purpose! It is a HORRIBLE design decision and they should have either not gated everyone out of content so early in the story OR at the very least, made a queue for the quest so that you can enter it and wait your turn. Right now is just sheer chaos and hurting the consumer.

And they simply could have made this one of those fights where we go into the violet circle and spawn the monsters (I have no idea what happens since I am still stuck on the first cutscene like a lot of people), yet they somehow thought that a solo story fight that traps everything else (even the whole map!)behind it would be fine.

I am also quite sure that nothing will change at launch day.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

The way blizzard solved this was to essentially borrow a technique from mega server, thee realms are basically mega servers now.

When you move into a zone and it's too busy a new instance is created therefore reducing the burden on the servers. This worked flawlessly for people on Legion release.

The problem with FF14 is that it uses very poor server organisation. They, as far as I know, keep everyone on the same instance so you can only get in so many, which is odd considering each zone is instanced, and not seamless like WoW.

SE really need to get their act together and write proper server code. Sadly the Achilles Heal of this game (2.x+) has always been it's poor, limited server code.
I agree with you that whoever SE has doing the server and system parts don't seem to have a good handle on their environment. Of course it could also be a management problem as this type of support isn't "Content" nor considered sexy so often gets the short shrift when it comes to funding.

As to design it shouldn't have to be that complicated. All they need to do is setup instances to run in their own server pool. As instances are generally going to be well known in their system resource requirements it should be straight forward to determine how many instances they can run on a system image. If the pool gets full then add more system images to the pool (could be hardware or software). When things drop off remove the extra images. It is not rocket science as this type of thing is done everyday for eons on any large, high transaction system.

Try it around 3 am of your timezone. Or wait 1-2 days and level up RDM or SAM

What was point if massive amount of people are disconnecting at once and can't even play 30 minutes before getting disconnected. Also server on wasn't on listed that was over populated.

And if lots of people will do this we will have the same problem. Also all the people that are leveling the new jobs right now will get back to it too so even more people that will try it. And we have real launch soon too. How long should people wait till they can get on in with the first parts of the MSQ? :/

Been here since beta. This exact thing happens each time they release an expansion. When ARR came live it was an instance in Central Thanalan, we also had to form a line for that. I thought they would have learned by now.

One datacenter to take care of the entire American Continent.

    Think about it.
