You know, it's reasons like this why WoW is still the #1 mmorpg in the world. Because for all Blizzard's faults, at least amateur things like this do not happen and if they do, Blizzard explains every step taken.TO the minions at SE - You shouldn't let an untested launcher get out the door. The real "hot stick in the eye" is SE not posting it's progress with Sony to permanently fix these unnecessary and MASSIVE downloads. Several other games I have that have frequent updates don't have fragile launchers and version-checkers. This is going on the second WEEK of little or no reassurance to thousands of PS4 subscribers. POST on the opening page of game TODAY and keep your loyal customers INFORMED.
Blizzard is on PC, no PS4. SE has communicated what they can: It's a Sony issue. They are fixing it. Nothing more to say.
This is about as big of a cop-out as I've seen. Also, D3 and Overwatch exist on console, so that deep sixes that argument from the word go. Both companies are at fault here, and to say otherwise is either disingenuous, naive, or both.
"They're fixing it"
NOT GOOD ENOUGH. The subs of PS4 players are JUST AS GOOD as PC players. We should not be an afterthought, and bugs like this that only affect one platform should not be excused or dismissed as "Oh well smaller playerbase lol".
We are being screwed out of gametime that we paid for because of a drastic oversight in basic design. We are owed recompense.
A few things since this thread has now hit 100 pages of complaints (over 1000 posts).
For those complaining it's happening to you multiple times: Since this is an international issue, if you can afford one in the country you are playing, please get a backup UPS/Battery Surge protector. Not all of them are excessively expensive. I know that there is a surge protector for 4 outlets that has backup battery as low as 45 in the US. This WILL NOT help you if you leave the PS4 in rest mode overnight, so you'll unfortunately have to power it off. This is against Sony's design of it supposed to be staying in rest mode so it can receive updates to the software. Complaining it's happening to you five times looks silly on you, if you live in an area where you cannot maintain power since after the first few times knowing that's the reason you get this error...you keep doing it.
For the other part. I'm exceptionally disappointed with Square's response on this matter and pointing fingers at Sony. While Sony may also not be that great, if I went into a fast food joint and they couldn't serve drinks because Coca Cola producer ran out of Soda for them, I'm gonna be somewhat sympathetic but at the end of the day, I still put blame on the food joint, because I came to their place to get something to eat. It is absolutely SE's responsibility to keep the customers updated on this issue.
What puzzles me more is the lack of response. Normally Japan is a culture of prostration when things go wrong. While the American or other cultures don't understand or think that Japan lacks sincerity when they apologize. It feels like they're not even apologetic at this point and it feels worse. Like no one cares. That's one of the worst impressions to leave to your customers.
As far as being compensated. I'm a bit on the fence but leaning towards yes players should be compensated for this. It's not because this unfortunate bug is happening. I get it, and bugs do happen. It is for the following reasons:
1. No notification for 2 weeks on the Lodestone that this was an issue. Simply unacceptable. Players should not be finding out after the fact and do forum digging, when it happens. You stated in the forums it was a known issue, but did not take action to give caution to other PS4 players to TAKE PRECAUTIONS so that some could prevent it from happening.
2. Lack of communication to your PS4 playerbase. Regardless if it's the same news, no response is worse. It makes it feel like your players are being ignored. I get that you probably don't want to post "Sorry" over and over again, but something to show you care is better than this void right now.
I normally cast off those that scream "cancelling my sub" as some kind of silly rage, and I'm generally sympathetic to a lot of plights of Game Development and Customer service (being in the industry or friends that work it), but this really has been frustrating to see in this regard.

Consoles will come to dominate gaming. The PC is for doing boring things. That's why we leave them at work.

...and the issue with PS4 redownloading the client after a power outage deserves address.
Come on SE. Show SONY how to stay the path moving forward.
5th time.
I'm done with this piece of shit.
Well, I'm back! After TWO weeks of enjoying my FFXIV, it happened again! My FFXIV was running, suspended @ the start screen, suspended in the background while I was watching Amazon Video on Demand app. The power wasn't even off long enough to reset digital clocks! Of course, I fell asleep watching TV showsWoke up, said 'oh no' and fired up FFXIV, yup! Hello big d/l. Square Enix, you can blame this on Sony all you want, but your game is the ONLY program on my PS4 that is having this issue. It's YOUR responsiility to see it fixed and communicate to you customers what YOU are doing about it.
I am absolutely fuming mad as hell right now as my electric never ever flickers or goes out unless it's a major storm or whatever, and yet I just sat down really getting into Final Fantasy 14 on the ps4 pro, as I'm currently a level 19 on the free trial, and so far I'm loving this game it's incredible, and yet as I was saying a sat down started playing just progressed to the Uldah envoy quest line took the flight to gridania, and wow I'm really into the game just got a really great buzz going form my suboxone I just took, and then bam boom kaboom the electric goes it for about 5 seconds, and comes right back online, and I start back up Final Fantasy 14, and I'm staring at a launcher patch of nearly 16 gb in size, and it's telling me almost 100 minutes as it's downloading at a rate of 3.38mb per second on a 100+mb connection, and I'm so pissed off it killed my buzz totally because now I can't play anything else either while waiting as I gotta wait this shit out or cancel, And download later tonight while I'm asleep, either way it seems as though this issues been effecting everyone since the expansion came out or whatever, and now it's July 8, 2017 and the problem still hasn't been fixed, and I absolutely won't be buying the full game unless n until this issue is corrected as this is total amateur style development bullshit
It's officially monsoon season in the desert, that means more random poweroutages. Just got hit with one and now have to redownload all 22.9 gigs. Not cool.
