22.7gb update after relogging?

Now that I had a PC version ready, I decided to make my PS4 a lab rat and run some test!

First, I run a different digitally downloaded game (Persona 5), and intentionally cut off the power, and PS4 went into recovery mode and viola! The dreaded first time set up and 22.7 GB download. I am not even playing Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood. Persona 5, the game I was playing, has no data lost, what-so-ever.

Next, I cut off the power on main menu without running game. PS4 booted into recovery mode and guess what? 22.7 GB hellhole again! I wasn't even running anything.

Next, I forcefully shut down PS4 WHILE FF XIV is downloading the patch by holding power button for 10 seconds. PS4 didn't boot into recovery mode and no 22.7 GB download. In fact, the download resume without any hiccup. :/

Conclusion

It is definitely the launcher/downloader. Whenever PS4 goes into 'Recovery/system check up' mode, the launcher derped out and re-download everything as if it is a first time set up, even if there is no data corruption. This didn't happened with previous launchers!

I no longer have this problem anymore because I just switched to PC, but I cannot rest until this problem is fully resolved. While this bug maybe insignificant for people with very high download bandwidth and data cap or living in a place where power outages are rare occurrences, but it is a MAJOR GAME BREAKING BUG for people with slower internet and tighter data cap.

Yeah I don't really buy the 'We believe this is mainly occurring due to the power outage causing game files to be corrupted'. I've experience electricity fluctuations before (ARR/HW) and never did the launcher asked me to re-download all the previous patches, so something else seems to be going on here.

Here to echo this, just happened to my girlfriend. Something tells me this wouldn't even be difficult to patch, or that if it is, something is terribly afoot. Have we received ANY response from SE on this?

Unfortunately no. Nothing on lodestone, no reply from the support service. Hope someone will read this thread of post, and hope that SE do something about it. In meantime, restart the download is the only way.

So. I've waited 6 hours for the download to finish. Took a nap from 6pm to now (almost midnight here) so I have a chance to play today. And...

...Now I'm back to an empty character selection screen saying "unable to obtain character data due to servers congestion".

I bought the early access and could only "play" with nonsense downloads and this empty screen. I had the opportunity to play the game once since Friday - only once.

This release is terrible and so is Square. Feel free to delete if you can't actually deliver.

Don't worry if it helps, your characters are fine. Happened to me too. But I agree, this release has been terrible, you'd think they'd learn a thing or two from HW and ARR release but I guess, ever the MMOs...

We have. They are working on it per an SE spokesperson on Reddit. The issue has been escalated.
