This was taken directly from a WoW priest ability and it doesn't get abused there so I doubt it'll be an issue here.

Your faith in humanity is commendable, especially insofar as it applies to fellow players in our beloved sister MMO. Unfortunately it DOES get abused, because MMO players are all cut from the same jib.
Just for some quick examples (one from each region):

I just imagined a party with 7 healers playing dragoonball
While it *does* get abused, the amount of times is very low outside of friends messing with each other.Your faith in humanity is commendable, especially insofar as it applies to fellow players in our beloved sister MMO. I wonder if this could potentially be used to drag players into otherwise inaccessible areas of the world map.
Even though there's obvious troll potential with Rescue, I for one am glad they added the skill. I know there will be instances of trolling, but that can easily be resolved with a kick vote. Meanwhile, intelligent healers can actually make good use of it to save allies when they make a positioning mistake. The only trouble with it is that you need to select a party member to cast it. I suppose that's an obvious necessity, but it also causes some issues, especially for people playing with controller. On PC, if you see someone in trouble you can just click them and cast. With controller, you have to figure out who the person in danger is (we aren't always reading names, after all; we just see that someone's about to get wrecked), then scroll down the list to select them. I almost wish it was just an instant-cast frontal line AoE that dragged the first player character it touched to the caster's location. Sure, it would turn it into a skill-shot ability, but it would also allow us to instantly respond to visual cues without the delay of reading a name then finding that name on a list. That delay is, in most cases, just going to cost us the time we needed to save the player.
This is WoW we're talking about. The King of MMO trolls. A lot of such things described there are impossible in FFXIV anyway. When was the last time you dismounted in the air after using a spell? I've played WoW for years now (including as the class with this skill) and I've never, ever had it used against me in any trollish way (or seen it used for that matter.) Healers in WoW said basically the same things about it initially (eg, now we have to be responsible for the position of the dps too?) but once they started using it, it became a favorite. There are a lot of practical uses for this that make it worthwhile.
Someone in the worst place during an almost floor wide AOE and can't make it in time? Pull them to you. Melee taking splash dmg that you don't have the MP to heal? Pull them to you and get them out of the way. Someone is targeted by stuff that follows and does AOE dmg in the wake but then you need to collapse in one are? Pull them to you. Someone going to get one shot by a mechanic? Pull them to you. That one DPS who gets aggro and runs away from everyone for some goddamn reason? Pull them to you. It's a must-have in PVP too.
I had a run in Temple of Qarn where I was struggling to outrun the sand vortex! I would had outran it eventually but the healer rescued me!I was apparently their first rescue and they got my comm! It's a fun skill. I'm yet to use it.
To everyone worried about rescue being abused:
1. Shadewalker never got abused.
2. If a healer wants to kill you, they do not need rescue to do so.
Can it be used if you hit a striking dummy?
