Now even if the Square Enix Account management system was hacked, off course token would be useless, but all the damn Square Enix services would be suspended anyway, so it's not like you would be even able to log on in the first place.

If they catch it in time, which is unlikely. It would surprise you how long hackers stay on systems before they get shut-out.

Come on, it's not like SE are the best, but still they aren't that bad, and due to the company nature (international, running 24/7 content across 3 regions), they do have a 24/7 NOC team, so such incident would be discovered rather quickly.

It's not like it would take long do dump the XIV customer database anyway. Not 10 millions customers in there :]

Im not saying SE are bad, im just saying there isnt eyes on every server 24/7, look at Sony, you think all that info was downloaded within a second? I doubt it anyway.

They cant just go "oh shit i think someone hacking, flick switch", it has protocol, a process to follow, a small temp investigation, requests from higher up people, and so on XD

If my account info is stolen and sold, there is that extra layer of security, that was my point.
I just learned my new password, if I have to change I'll be sad panda.

As for editing account info, technically possible. If they got that far into SE systems, I think there is much more to worry about than stolen accounts though.

Not always, look at Sony and all the stolen CC info, and their intention was not to use it, just the act of stealing it XD

In that case, what harm is done to the consumer? An inconvenience to change passwords and maybe a re-issue of Security tokens

I dont think hackers are much of a worry, what concerns me is the amount of people who freely open themselfs to downloading third-party apps for the games such as parsers and so on, while so far nothings happened and they have been legit, you can disguise one of these, there are even methods/processes to get around security token if you do it right.

Token is not full proof, nothing really is. Unless they start making finger print scanners or retinal scanners lol

My company actually has a finger print scanner lol, so they're made, I don't think they're for retail use yet though.

(Since someone will inevitably come along and point it out, I know games aren't kept on their servers, it's just a joke :P).

Joke aside, some companies actually do keep source code on their servers lol (it's not the smartest idea..but some do.)

Seriously. You pay for your phone. You don't rent it or borrow it, you buy it. It's yours. And all its features should be yours.
