You should have seen what it was like for FFXI. Uphill, both ways, snow, etc.

Then wait two days after release, read the tests and patch notes and decided after that wether you want to buy the game or not. Easy as that. If you're only after information on wether or not you want to buy the game, that should work out fine.Personnally I hate when nothing is said. I can't know if I might enjoy a game if I can't really see what it is about. Annuncing an expansion without showing much is like taking profit of your liking for the game to make you buy something you are not sure to enjoy. That's why I barely buy any game without having played a demo first.
Personally I dont care about all this preview-stuff when it comes to this game - I enjoy playing FFXIV for almost 4 years now, I know SB isnt going to change that, so why should I be worried about buying it? Even with the changes coming, it will be "more of the same" in the greater context. I dont need or even want to see every dungeon beforehand.
I get that people want to be excited and want to be given reasons to be excited and from what I can tell: we got plenty of information during the last few months. People really need to calm down about this and how they didnt got to know everything before the expansion goes live.
"Nothing has been said" is so, so wrong...
This is really becoming the microwave generation. People want everything right now. SE's job is to promote and hype up the game, not give you every little deal about it. Reporters provide you with some inside scoops and their personal review. If you can't decide to get the game from the information you received then you wait until after the release to make your decision. This is the whole purpose of an early release. The people who know what they want get to experience the game early and then hype it up more for others to buy it after the actual release.
What more do you people want? They have given us everything except the final actions specification (because one those could change and two they don't really matter to the public aka people who don't already own the game). The only thing we are missing is for them to show us the complete story line.
After the WHM bs that happened I doubt SE will be providing as much detail come the next expansion. People clearly demonstrated they don't understand what "subject to change" means. They owe you NOTHING. This is how it should be done. Just because other games spoil their ENTIRE expansion months before release does not mean that is how it should be done. Too much information always leads to people losing thier collective minds over something they haven't played. See every whm thread.
Their communication is fine, your perceived entitlement is horrible.
The only thing im disappointed about when it comes to communcation is the lack of information about DoL/DoH since they are undergoing some changes according to the preliminary notes.
But again, I wouldn't make a Q_Q thread on a forum about it.
like... the patch notes are out.
Have you tried like.. not being upset all the time?
i think people miss the point of a preliminary patch up... they are patch notes announcing change without revealing stuff that will break the economy of the game.
now i will ask this, what the point of a prelim patch note while the downtime that add the patch? don't normally while this time you normally get the patch notes, since when the server will be up....you will spend it to play, not read a patch notes.
for me more than crying about the fact that we didn't get the prelim patch note earlier.... it's more why do we get one now? i means normally it's the day we must get the patch note, we do have 24 hours of downtime... it's the best moment for people to soak up most of the info from it. why hide the data about the sam/rdm skill? or the few stuff they have hidden that have no point to hide them, since we will get them tomorrow.
i will be like most people... play the game and will not read the whole patch note, because....well i pay for play the game more than read patch notes.
then on this point the op is right, the communication about stormblood patch notes (at least) is bad.
I don't care for it much either. To me it kind of ruins the surprise of seeing the new content for the first time so I avoid it as much as I can. I like the franchise which hasn't disappointed me to date so I see no reason it should in the future as long as the same folks keep running things.
I don't see any problem with the communication.
If journalist can do the job this is with what SE give as information. So ... how they do better than what SE already give?
Btw, the prelim patch can happen now, 1week before, 1month, that's doesn't do any difference to me. You still have all info before release. (don't forget the real release is the 20 not 16)
If you liked FF before you'll probably like it after. The game is mostly the same, with new zone etc, but mechanics are the same, tome system blabla, I'm a bit confuse about that point of view.
Clean everything before any nerf is my goal. No matter the time needed to reach the last hp and beat it.
