Is anyone else worried that Yoshi P won't finish Final Fantasy XIV?

As far as I can see, the devs have the courage to change the game even from its very roots, 1.0 as example, and 4.0 now with the jobs reworked, so I guess that XIV will have a bright future in the years ahead, and the XIV that we will play 4 years from now, maybe can be a completely different game than the one we have today.

If they keep trying to invent new system/feature and update their engine or use new engine to keep the graphic up to standard, sure why not.

But if not, by the time they reach 6 or 7th expansion iam afraid majority of people will go "i get it when its cheap" thinking.

There was a total of 2 years between 2.0 and 3.0 and I believe he has come out and said there will be a total of 9 expansions!! If he keeps up this pace thats another 18 years! I feel like only other FFXIV nuts will feel the worry I feel! Any thoughts? EDIT: Let me clarify that when I say FFXIV I mean A Realm Reborn (not 1.0)!

Short of a personal/family accident, he has no reason not to.

People in the West often quit for greener pastures, Western corporations often cut staffing just to meet arbitrary shareholder demands. Asia is another story where there is a strong sense of loyalty and management will often cut their own pay before letting go of staff if that is what it takes to retain people.

So I'd actually suggest FFXIV will outlive WoW.

Finish? MMOs don't get finished. Eventually they are abandoned by players and developers, but not finished.

XI was finished. It hasn't been abandoned but Rhapsodies of Vanadiel was intended as the end point of the game.

They have a good solid path and FF14 is very successful. Even if someone takes over I would expect them to continue in the same direction. Game development can be a soul crushing experience even when it goes well and Yoshi P didn't take over under the best circumstances. I can only imagine how much of his personal life he has sacrificed to get this game back on track. At some point even a successful director will get burnt out and it might even be in the game's best interest to bring in someone fresh. So if it happens and he leaves I think it will be ok for the game.

Last time I looked FFXI was still getting new content on a regular basis, even after it was officially put into maintenance mode. Doesn't sound finished to me.

It's finished. Doesn't mean it's shut down, but XI has been retired -- literally put out to pasture. SE is putting bare minimal resources into it simply because a small number of folks still insist upon playing it. But the game will never be more than it is right now. Its honest development is done, and the new content is minimal and not actually anything new.

Shut down? No. Finished? Yes. They literally roll the game's end credits after Rhapsodies -- even SE is saying "Game Over."

It was a great ending, though!
