This thread deserves to be euthanized. I, for one, am tired of wannabe elitist snowflakes putting themselves over with silly threads calling for gating out "bad players" (i.e. players who either don't know or don't care about speedrunning, illegal parsing, or being the most "efficient" player on their server).
It's honestly kind of silly that there's no minimum ilevel requirement on all dungeons.
I've run into multiple trolls/dumb players who try to tank/heal in glamour gear in the dungeon roulette, and that really shouldn't be happening.
The only "content gate" I would see acceptable is probably MSQs (and not for ALL the content) and your job quests. Every player should have an oportunity to play and learn how to use their respective jobs, if you don't want to deal with those players just don't play with random people.
I dont want gates for the MSQ dungeons and stuff like that but some kind of barriers for extreme trials and savage content would be nice. Maybe make it so that you can only unlock the extreme version if you managed to defeat the right puppet. This way people at least know that anyone that joins their group in party finder did the minimum amount of damage needed. This would kinda help both sides imo. People will not be stuck with players that can barely do anything and are just carried through. They might get kicked out after some time but its still wasted time for everyone. And for the player itself its a good but still mandatory check point to see how good they truly are.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
I'd rather have the lvl 70 dungeons be tuned to a point where if you had ice mages in your group you couldn't actually win, but we all know that won't happen because "muh casuals" AKA "lazyNAplayers". What we will probably get is 6 monsters blocked by a physical wall, that only opens when you kill said monsters, followed by a very easy boss.

Shouldn't really get smaller. If designed properly anyone with half a brain should be able to easily clear the gate. The idea is to avoid people who don't know their class and/or do proper rotations like Ice Mages. Unless a large portion of the player base that does harder content are like that then it should really get smaller. When someone joins a party finder, you don't always know how they play; with a gate, you know at the very least they know the basics of their class and were able to clear the gate.
At the very least, they should add an option to the party finder that allows the leader to auto decline anyone who hasn't cleared the gate, or better yet, have multiple levels of gates and settings to auto decline anyone who doesn't meet the specified gate requirement. That way the people forming parties know that they are potentially increasing the time needed to form a party in return for a higher probability of finding better party members.

Gear wise outside of tanks you can pretty.much wear 130 itonworks all the way to 60 without any issue at all. Tanks can make it to 58 without any difficulty.Yes and no. I can currently queue into The Vault with Ironworks gear and not a single Bard skill; not one. I wouldn't call that a content gate seeing as how level is largely irrelevant. Anyone who has experienced Ironworks gear in the Vault knows how fun that is. You should at least be required to wear appropriate gear.
If storm blood is remotely similar players in 270 stuff will probably find it will take them all the way to 70 without issues.
Eh. This idea would be very good for raids and primals, where most people join and have no idea how to DPS or do mechanics, so dummy with the mechanics from the fight (where you take no damage but you need to dodge the mechanics) while dpsing is a good thing to have. The roulettes however, nobody cares. I don't think you ever understood how much people ruins it for others in raids or primals because they just think they are doing good.
And then the whiners on the forums won and it was removed, and player quality tanked again. It was great, the people who were incapable of completing them whined on the forums, but the quality of players you'd run into in random heroic dungeons was greatly increased (the average level of self awareness increased from dead tuna to sentient nihilistic pumpkin), and queues didn't take much of a hit. People who were bad were forced to learn and improve their gameplay to meet the most basic standards, or they were forced to sulk in their shame.
