If there were anyone who still needed some convincing why Balmung and Gilgamesh needed to be locked, this should about do it.
16% of all transfers in just a three month span went to the two highest populated servers.26,019 people transferred from a server to another.
Balmung absorbed the most players with 2576 players joining it, followed by Gilgamesh with 1559 people coming in.
If this statistic covered the mass transfers that happened between 3.1 and 3.3 I think our jaws would drop, I'm pretty sure Balmung and Gilgamesh populations doubled back then.
Sadly, Lucky Bancho wasn't doing statistics for ARR. What I do find interesting is the decline in numbers Gilgamesh has seen since Gordias while Balmung has barely budged. I suppose that makes sense though. Gordias destroyed the raid scene whereas roleplay has always been extremely popular.

It should also be noted (for those who can't be arsed to read the disclaimer) that these transfers are about characters, not actual players. Which would mean that if you move with 8 characters, those count as 8, rather than 1.
Insofar relevant as RPers in particular like to have multiple characters and the statistics are probably a little inflated as a result.
Yeah, a far warning is to not take everything you see at face value, many things can't be accounted for, such as multiple character transfer, people using free fantasias, or "free" name changes if someone else has your name when you transfer, this is meant to give an approximate idea, but it can never be 100% exact.
Yes, but almost as many people left Gilgamesh as the ones that joined.
Balmung for sure had the craziest growth of over 1,000 people. But with the amount of people who left Gilgamesh in the same time span, their growth was significantly smaller and more on par with the other servers.
(edit) Don't take that as me saying "omg Gilga doesn't need to be locked down cause we're barely gaining people", because I don't care one way or the other about the lockdown. I just wanted to point out that the growth on Gilgamesh isn't as crazy as the flat transfer numbers lead you to believe.

If Gilgamesh and Balmung keep losing people at the same rate they should be open for transfer some time next year.![]()
