exactly what I responded on that JP thread, others also saying same thing... different looks but same stats.
Doesn't really help YoshiP either when he said please choose whichever GC you want to enlist in since there is nothing to worry about.

Yep. That's what I thought they were gonna do initially when he said "don't worry choose any company".
When they didn't do that, I was like, O.o????
Don't make no sense.

In terms of item buying, all they had to do was how XI did it (Yes yes I know bad game shouldn't exist blah blah):
If you're highly ranked in your nation you can buy items from other nations at an inflated price if your nation placed first -- In terms of FFXIV, when you're at the top rank you can buy items from other GC at inflated gil prices due to being non members while members pay in their company seals.
Since it seems the only issue people have GC lock is any item differences, since being in diff GC otherwise doesn't really affect much but a minute seal bonus in battlefields.

I think we... as grunts and peons of the Grand Companies must unite the Grand Companies into the ultimate fighting force!!!

Me? I like there being a little weight to my decisions and I like when they aren't made wholly inconsequential by arbitrarily getting to go back on them whenever - even if those consequences are on me, or I'm not wholly able to foresee them.
I'll not throw a fit if re-assignment for Grand Companies is implemented, I guess.. but frankly I'm glad it's not there and my vote will always be against the option. Especially given all the warnings. Now, if the change were possible at some significant penalty or other..
Oh and just on a point of interest - My primary Discipline is Lancer, I'm with the Twin Adder.
Not that some means of dealing with the other Grand Companies wouldn't be nice.. Jennestia's point above, for instance. Still, they've said they're thinking about that idea anyhow, haven't they?

They already said GC will be pretty much uniform (and to be fair, even outside of a random crafting leg piece in one GC, there are ZERO benefits to being in one over the other currently and from the road on.) No one knows what they'll implement in the future, but all GC are the same now, that won't suddenly change at one point, if it does change it'll be like conquest from FFXI (which they already said it won't be given how they're introducing Free Companies), while one nation may do better than another it doesn't realistically change anything about YOUR gameplay.
If anything, FREE COMPANIES (Player companies) will be the bad thing, not the story related ones, ESPECIALLY considering how Yoshida stated only one company per server can have a Primal summon pact for example, that type of scenario is what you should be worried about, not whether or not you get crafting pants from one GC or another.

The items are not the point here!
It's the design choice to segemnt players for no reason. If we already did quests for the other 2 companies, why should be be banned from helping out now that were more important?
I don't care about the items, I already said that now being a mroe seasoned player with a level 50 job, and all others at 30+ the items to me are useless, as they are to many many players. The point I'm trying to get at is if i want seals now, I have to solo leves. And if my friend wants seals he has to solo leves. Why can't we both do a group designed quest together, and reap the benefits together? y aknow, playing an MMO with other people? Who would hav ethought this online game was meant for playing with other people!?

reason you should pick what you want in game and not do what other do. most picked ul'dah just cuz it was conveintnt.
and the games not finshed @_@ so, maybe in 2.0 they'll give you another try but maybe not never know.
You do a list of quest to join a GC. Then you chose a path withone of the militias. I understand many feel that as was mentioned "one of the biggest selling points of this game is that we can access all content as 1 character." But now content was added that demanded loyalty to one of the 3 city states. You make a commitment. I like it, and agree with it. I feel that in the future though, its reasonable to believe a betrayal quest that would allow a player to change militia is reasonable.
