The Blessing of Light doesn't work against mortals. The WoL's effectiveness is greatly increased against 'divine' level enemies because of the blessing. However without it s/he is just a very skilled and competent fighter. Plus I suspect Zenos himself has a few power ups. Back when Stormblood was announced Yoshi P said we would learn his motivations and how to fight him. That suggest walking up and just punching him in the face might not be particularly effective.

If you remember the Ultima fight, our attacks did almost nothing before the Blessing of Light kicked in, at which point we started ripping the machine apart. Likewise, we survived its ultimate because of the blessing. Even when we fought Ravana and Ifrit we had a Crystal of Light active. The Blessing of Light is our sword and shield against primals and the like but its not really much vs. mortals. Against mortals we have to rely on our base strength which, while formidable, isn't unbeatable.

Honestly of the three "deaths" foreshadowed in the trailer I think the one most likely to actually happen is Krile. I wouldn't be surprised if Y'shtola did die at some point but killing her off (as another member of the Circle of Knowing) at the beginning of Stormblood so soon after Papalymo's death would just make for odd pacing, especially since they have already forshadowed an entirely different sword hanging over her head. Krile on the other hand is more or less redundant as a "researcher" character now that we are no longer looking for Minfilia, as well as less established. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point we encounter some sort of Garlean/Allag primal tech that Zenos was developing that requires the sacrifice of an echo user to defeat--and Krile steps forward in the place of the WoL.

. . . please stop killing the popotos, SE.

So, who do we reckon that anthem belongs to: Ala Mhigo, or Garlemald?

The melody being present as an instrumental (possibly zone) theme and the irony of context in that trailer would make me think Ala Mhigan, but then there are the lyrics talking of unity under a "mighty, mighty standard" and the obvious Soviet influence that has me thinking it's more suited to an Empire.

The last line is "For Glory, Garlemald" so . . . yeah. There are some tentative lyrics being complied in the song thread.

People don't actually think they'd kill of Y'shtola just like that, do they?
Because even if they were to kill off XIV's cross-series representative, why in Heavens would they spoil that outright in a trailer?!

She's obviously wounded though, probably just an excuse to take her out of the story for a time and give focus to others. Seems like it might happen during the initial incursion into Gyr Albania, so pretty early into the MSQ? Think she'll recover later in 4.0, or sometime later on in 4.X?

There are some hints that the Garlean Empire's rise to power may have been influenced by the Ascions in the game similar to how the Ascion's influence the Allagan Empire by providing them information how to create their advance technology, among being the technology to capture and seal Bahamut, and eventually tricked them into destroying the world.

As of now the Garlean Empire is the Asicon's greatest asset to bring about Zodiark's return due to the amount of corrupt and dark hearted natured people in high position of power. Garlean Empire is not so "united" as they make themselves to be as we seen several times that they are suffering from constant conflict and power grabs from within behind the scene just like every other Civilization.

Trailer was really good. So much to think about...

Why isn't it the 16th already????????

    Anyway, some random thoughts:

I don't feel like Y'shtola is going to die in the first fight against Zenos, or any of the main characters. I do feel like we're all going to be captured though. Someone/something (perhaps Yugiri) comes and frees Lyse, Alisae and WoL, the rest are left behind (separate wards, more security, time, too injured or some other reason) and we flee to Doma.

My guess for how we get water breathing is something happens (maybe shipwreck or Siren) that pulls WoL, Lyse and Alisae into the water and a Kojin saves us, sees we could help him and asks one of his gods to aid us.

Crap, raid time...maybe I'll finish this later >.>

On the other hand, Yoshida is on record multiple times as saying that the Ascians have very little to do with Stormblood.

I would personally greatly prefer it if Garlemald has as little Ascian meddling as possible. That might be a pipe dream, given typical Ascian activities, but it's too convenient to have them be doing what they're doing because of mystical arbiters of darkness and destruction. It greatly dilutes any themes related to human nature.

Honestly the Ascion do not directly influence people into doing bad things but whisper words that may peak their "Human nature".

Only direct actions the Ascions makes is to stop the WoL.

Everyone else they just act as the Devil, whispering promises and provided information to certain things with them ending their words with "do as you will" thus leaving it up to the "Human nature" to decide if they take their word or not.

Ascions do not need mind control to influence all these people either good, bad, law, chaos, or neutral as by their "Human nature" they naturally act in the way the Ascion's expect them to of their own free will believing themselves to be doing it for whatever reason they believe.
