The Blessing of Light doesn't work against mortals. The WoL's effectiveness is greatly increased against 'divine' level enemies because of the blessing. However without it s/he is just a very skilled and competent fighter. Plus I suspect Zenos himself has a few power ups. Back when Stormblood was announced Yoshi P said we would learn his motivations and how to fight him. That suggest walking up and just punching him in the face might not be particularly effective.

If you remember the Ultima fight, our attacks did almost nothing before the Blessing of Light kicked in, at which point we started ripping the machine apart. Likewise, we survived its ultimate because of the blessing. Even when we fought Ravana and Ifrit we had a Crystal of Light active. The Blessing of Light is our sword and shield against primals and the like but its not really much vs. mortals. Against mortals we have to rely on our base strength which, while formidable, isn't unbeatable.

I don't mind the theory that our character has a tougher time with mortal enemies but we shouldn't be getting completely trounced by a single Legatus at this point, which the trailer seemed to imply. A stalemate or Zenos having a slight edge due to some unknown power we weren't prepared for, sure (which might be what happens considering the glow on his sword). I dislike power fantasies as much as the next person but going from hero to zero is just as undesirable without justification.

The Legatus are supposed to be the best of the best Garlean wise, so this one being an equal to us shouldn't be that much of a stretch. If anything if we just beat his butt every time not only would that totally kill suspense but would just have me asking why we don't just go ahead and invade Garlemald on our own if literally nothing they throw at us is ever a challenge?

I'm not really sure how strong Ascians are supposed to be but Nabriales had an ability that could control time, that should rank pretty highly. As for the Legatus, we've killed Nael twice, Gaius and the primal that killed Regula. Considering that, I just find it odd that Zenos seems to completely overwhelm us. He isn't even injured, tired or fazed. I'm fine with losing against enemies, we can't be Übermensch that do everything and I'm absolutely sure Zenos will have some sort of hidden power we can't counter, I'll just be disappointed if it's a one sided thrashing. But I'll wait to experience the actual story, we have no clue of the circumstances surrounding the fight after all.
