    Need laptop suggestions for ff14

I have a desktop I know they are better, but I also travel and attend university.

My dilemma is I realllly want a 2 in 1 style laptop, but I can only find ones with geforce 940mx card in my budget. Would that be enough to run 14 on maximum settings at at least 30fps consistantly?

Do you have any recommendations? My budget is 1300 (including tax). I would really like a 2 and 1 laptop.

Note I am not looking to run normal games on it just ff14.

I don't think you should push a laptop to do maximum settings in FFXIV Stormblood. I recommend putting a cooling mat into the budget at sometime, when it is new it won't have any troubles but a graphically intensive game like XIV could make it very hot a lot.

You should always play at lower settings then what your computer/laptop can pump out too. Just because it "can" do something, doesn't mean it can do it consistently, well, all the time and not break down.

I don't know where you are located so I can't really suggest shops, have a browse around your local shops. Try to find shops which specialise in selling computers and laptops over shops where the salesmen are aiming for commissions.

Depending on your location ,if the budget is 1300 dollars or euro, but for that value you can get https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16834154574 or
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2WC-000N-00068 . It will run as you expect , but i don't recommend using max settings as it will have heat issues like Chiramu said above and heat= less perfomance , specially when a laptop is concern.

Those are nice, but they don't flip on their backside :3 maybe I should get my priorities straight and just buy a traditional laptop.

I can kinda see the over heating concerns, a lot of small electrical components in a tightly confined space should surely create a lot of heat. Still final fantasy 14 isn't exactly the most graphically intensive game. MMOs usually can run on toasters, it shouldn't be too bad to run on max, especially since I rarely do frontlines or the dun scaith....

I'm really considering getting a normal laptop now. Thanks for steering me away from the marketing pitch of 2 in 1s, I almost became entrapped in my own bad decisions.

For reference my laptop is a oldish Vortex 4.System
    Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (6.2, Build 9200) (14393.rs1_release_sec.170327-1835)
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4210M CPU @ 2.60GHz
    8108.219MB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M (VRAM 6107 MB)

That runs the game on max settings at around 45-50 fps. And hits just under 5k on the benchmark.

Toned down slightly. Via Nvidia optimiser. It runs at a fairly consistent 60 fps. Think the Nvidia only changed 3 settings from max to high / very high. (Goes up to about 8k on benchmark)

Heat wise I have no problems my fans are prettynsilent most of the time. Though my laptop might have better airflow as ideas designed for gaming

Using that as refererence then I would say the 940mx should easily be enough.

Foldable laptops aren't going to perform as well as a regular one because they are designed with more constraints for heating and ventilation requiring lower power components. If you really want one of those just keep in mind performance is going to be lower than with a regular system.

Honestly anything less than a geforce 1050 would be a no-go as you won't get very good performance from anything lower than that at 1080 or even 720.

A couple of years ago I bought an ASUS ROG laptop that still serves me well to this day. Here is a newer model of the one I got. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog...?skuId=5712362

Load times are a bit slower than my home PC, but still works good. (I think I don't have an SSD in mine.)

No keep in mind last 2 numbers are most important, I/e 880 is leagues over 940, 940 is garbage for gaming.
You do not want a 1050, it needs to be 1060 or more, or for older gens, x70 or more, so 970+, 870+ etc, those links to the 1060s is good options

1050 may be passable as far as desktops but not for laptops

Also make sure SDD 128+ gb

If you want decent performance, med/high to high, the smaller fold laptops is not an option.

Absolutely not. You might expect 30fps (with some drops) on medium settings at WXGA resolution. At 1080p or greater resolution, performance would tank considerably.
