You all work towards a common goal. If someone isn't pulling their weight, then the others are in their rights to bring that up. It's then up to them to decide if they want to carry that player or if they want to get rid of him/her.
No amount of Yoshi-P quotes will change the fact that the community itself decides how to deal with that kind of behavior.
Except, it isn't. The difference being. I don't need them in PotD. I can legit do everything on my own. In a dungeon or raid one can't do that. Run off to solo pulls and you'll just die.

Takes Overwatch for example. If you pick Ana, you have a sniper rifle that can heal your teammates, or deal damage to the enemy, depending who you are shooting.
Well, if your team doesn't need some heal and you can shoot a few rounds at baddies, then you'll probably do it, right? I mean, killing the other team is the common goal you share with your teammates.
Overwatch would be a VERY poor example. Overwatch is a competitive pvp game. They have to do both with that character or you'll likely lose the match.

And you better hope they do.

You are factually wrong, period. Like, there isn't even a debate to be had here.

I know common sense is a rare trait on the internet, but please, at least try to have some.

How am I factually wrong?, please stop cherry picking information that only supports your argument and hope that people are oblivious to the rest, the image you have is taken from the exact same post that MY image validating the Facts that we are allowed to kick players for differing play style comes from, don't act like people are stupid because you are in the wrong be a grown up and just accept that we do not have to conform to any one individual's play style.

Bottom line: if you are not DPSing as a healer at all, you are not playing your job optimally and you are not doing 100%, everything you can for your group.

Of course it's not "required" (in most cases), your primary function is to keep people alive. :P And if you're fine doing the bare minimum you have to do without any drive to excel or be an exception player (and thus, an exceptional healer), then sure, don't worry about DPS, as long as you're keeping everyone alive. Twiddle your thumbs when healing is not needed. Overheal for giggles/keep everyone super topped up all the time (as long as you're not making the tank's life miserable). Whatever. In the end, it's how you want to play, so long as you aren't hindering the progress/play of others.

You will never be an exceptional healer. You'll be ok, but you won't be able to be considered anything beyond that.

That is my take on it. And if I do get into a party with a healer that refuses to DPS, that's fine. If they were clearly new to healing I used to give them the little spiel (I WAS nice about it, mind you) about how DPSing as a healer allows you to get the most out of your role/job and provide the most utility for your party, but no matter how nice I was about it, people continued to get offended. So now I don't bother. Instead, I figure they've got things handled in the heals department, and I can push MY DPS numbers even higher. (Yes, I'll help where it's needed. I'm really not an asshole.)

TL;DR: If you're fine with, for all intents and purposes, being a mediocre healer, don't DPS. It's okay. It's not "required". If you want to grow beyond that, well, you're going to have to DPS. :P

Not he's right. True that there is no debate on whether you can kick for difference of play style, but Alysrea is right.

I don't really understand all the drama.

People will play in the way they want, nothing more, nothing less.

But, if people want to play in a efficient way, they MUST try to do as much dps as posible while doing their respective roles in the group, as "simple" as that. Obivously this requiere time and experience to do, and you can't expect people to follow that rule, even less if it is a random group. (sorry for the grammar, English is not my first language).

I am amused. Please, continue perpetuating the DPS stereotype.

What case? What fanciful scenario have you constructed? I don't complain in party chat, that's a huge waste of time. I will say, "we're not taking that much damage, can you please consider adding some damage?" and then if they don't the votekick silently goes out and I've yet to have one fail.

But I also don't actually end up having to vote kick a lot of people. As it turns out most healers dps once you get above level 30 and I give people under that the benefit of the doubt and just assume they are new and carry them on my strong dps back.

My common sense says that it's basic courtesy to try my best to contribute what I can to the group, which happens to include maximizing damage and usage of utility tools on every job.
