They should make us pay for admission to this thread. Perhaps we should pay a fee on mogstation to access it or just up the sub a buck or two.

That's lovely, but doesn't change that how they designed the content no healer would ever need to be healing 100% of the time. If they truly don't expect healers to DPS, then they need mobs to hit harder, damage to be more random as opposed to heavily scripted as we have now, and one of the big elephant in the room addressing just how powerful healers are in this game.
I dabbled in healing in some other MMO's before, and I never really felt I had a chance to do DPS, or at least to the extent I can get away with it in this game.
So while his words say they don't expect healer DPS, the entire design of content says the complete opposite.
Yoshi-P doesn't dictate the meta that has evolved as a result of the playerbase.
If you are on healer, and are jumping around and/or doing the Manderville dance for 50% of the dungeon, please still expect to be asked to contribute more or get kicked.
I will still kick you if you stand around and do nothing but wait to heal, differing play styles is still 100% a valid reason to kick people, if you do not want to conform to the group's strategy you need to leave.

You don't like people that don't play the game the way you want them to? Well there is an easy way to avoid them.
Do your dailys in a premade group.
And I will always reject said kick. Unless the healer flat out can't keep anyone alive, there is no reason to kick them.
Meh, we'll live.Oh, they won't quit, but they might decide to play one of those flashy new DPS jobs. People complain about how DPS queues will be long because we got 2 DPS in the expansion, but then completely forget the fact that it is vital to make healers and tanks as appealing as possible to compensate.
Healers across the board have had too many strikes, no new healer is strike 1, WHM being bad is strike 2, and now this attitude of Yoshi Ps (which contradicts the design of content) dividing the community is strike 3, that's a bit much controversy considering how important it is for players to continue playing healer instead of trying the brand new expansion jobs.
A large part of the reason I play dps, besides that I love to dps, is that I don't get instant ques. Yes, you heard me right, I DON'T want instant ques lol. Reason being is it gives me a chance to work on other things while I wait.
Besides, dungeons ques aren't the only way to level these days. PotD might be a sack of crap but, it's a useful sack of crap. ;P
Endgame? No, I don't believe for a second the new dps classes will effect endgame que in the slightest.
I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't pay attention to how my party members are playing their jobs. Personally, I queue for roulette, chat with my group members, Moogle dance and jump around.... its a game, lighten up people.
People are far too invested in this debate and fail to realize their opinion is just that, an opinion. Some may agree with you others wont, and the majority probably don't care one way or the other.

We can and people will; it's considered difference in play style which is a valid reason to kick even if it is not listed under the list of reasons.
No, the reason why they have damage spells is to be able to contribute to the DPS. They are intended to DPS when healing isn't necessary; the Hall of Novice supports this idea. They are simply not required to do so when clearing content. There's a huge difference between something being not mandatory and something being not intended. It is intended but not mandatory that healers DPS.
I don't think this is a case of him being out of touch (if anything, the development team made it easier for healers to DPS, therefore supporting Healer DPS; not to mention that statement made in the Hall of Novice). This is probably more of a neutral stance he has to take due to his position, sort of like his stance with parsers. He cannot publicly support the use of parsers, but it doesn't seem like he is personally against them, maybe even personally supportive of them. He actually does seem to understand how important parsers are to the raiding community, he just can't officially support them. He just can't officially support one play style over another.
On a completely unrelated note, I just noticed all of my silver medals turning into one gold medal! Yay!

Players are going to do what they want in the end, DPS or don't DPS as a healer, I don't personally care. But people taking anything the devs say as gospel is rather alarming, this is the same devs that said "there is no optimal rotation" which is blatantly false.
I get what the pure healers are trying to say, I really do. But to me, saying you're honestly going to stand there and do nothing while waiting for someone to take damage just seems so boring, especially when you're sitting at >95% hp, the tank and dps aren't taking damage, and the pull is dragging on.
It brings me endless amusement seeing all these salty DPS players bawl their childish little eyes out over this.
