Average iLvl should be adjusted and weighted properly

I was reading a story in another thread and it reminded me to bring up this issue that's been a problem since the start of 2.0.

If I equip an iLvl 50 weapon, and an iLvl 270 ring, my gearset's iLvl would be the same as it would be if I equipped an iLvl 270 weapon and an iLvl 50 ring.

This has been a glaring issue for a long time. People bumping iLvl simply by gearing up their cheaper pieces (accessories) before doing left side (armor & weapon).

It's common knowledge that a weapon is worth more than a ring in terms of contribution, yet they are weighted the same. Why?

Why should my average iLvl increase the exact same amount if I upgraded to a higher level accessory as it would if I upgraded my weapon?

This really should be adjusted to allow for proper weighting.
Part of the issue is being mitigated with the addition of exclusive accessories in SB (not being able to equip a MND ring on a DPS for example), however the underlying issue still remains.

You can very quickly inflate your average iLvl by simply upgrading all of the cheaper, less impactful slots first - and upgrade the more important slots like weapon/body/legs afterwards.

*Edit* I am pretty fail at using the search function in these forums.

And I would go a step further and also weigh the tome costs appropriately while we're at it.

Your weapon is counted twice in its weight if you have no sub weapon. So a brd wearing an ilvl 50 wep and a 270 ring would have a weight of 370 to divide by slots. Where as a 270 weapon and a 50 ring would have a weight of 590 to divide by slots. You should not arrive at the same ilevel with a low weapon.

    Interesting.

    That one I didn't know.

However it doesn't solve the issue of say a body piece versus a ring.

Totally agree. Its an issue. It really seems to me that left side should be weighted overall higher than right side.

This should not happen, the system needs to prevent this from happening. it should be simple, each job needs to pass a set amount of main stat, hp, and weapon level. Simple giving a gear average is not enough and too easy to work around that. Also all DFs needs requirements, I am sure you did not expect people to wear incorrect gear and the wrong gear like crafting gear to underperform soo much it is basically a 3 person dungeon, or in some cases makes the dungeon not even passable.

I definitely agree with you on this.

I recall reading a post a while back in which someone found their way into an Alex run with a SUPER under-leveled weapon (I think that was what it was, at any rate).

A large portion of people seemed to think it didn't matter since "the group cleared the instance." I think it would be better if SE could nip these kind of situations in the bud before people abusing the system can find their way into parties, raids, etc.

I think this is a good idea. I've had at least a handful of groups that failed because the tank decided that cheap accessories were more important than actual armor.

I actually remember this thread. Probably worth a bump as it's a lot more fleshed out than this one.

just did and one of your stories was a reference , lol

Even with the right side class lock, people can still do ilevel dodging by not gearing the left. I recently posted on the horror thread about a tank doing mid 50 dfs in ilevel 90 gear for some on the left, causing an abandon. They thought it was ok because they could enter it from being level 53 or whatever, all DFs need stat checks too. enough is enough people are too lazy and take advantage of the system.
