    [Storage Idea] Crafter's Workshop

    I was thinking to myself, "Self, Why do we currently as a game experience such retainer inventory issues?" and then an answer occurred to me, well because crafting materials take up a bunch of space and this game encourages people to be hoarders! So I deliberated and deliberated and came up with an answer. We need a place for our items to go!



    Introducing: Crafting Workshop (Name is a Work in progress..)

    Coming to a FC house or Personal Apartment near you! (....maybe)

    The idea is that you could make it either a room in a house or a furnishing set that would store items (specifically *only as crafting material) and have a central location that the player could either access a forge or a tinkering table with their crafting tool.

    The player may also be able to auto-pull items when crafting as the storage would also act as your inventory for crafting materials.




    I know it's asking for a lot of additional coding and potentially intensive server issues but with a game as heavy based on crafters as this one is it may be needed. I would very much like the community's opinion on this and if they have an ideas that could make this work easier/better.

    We've only been needing this since the beginning. Plenty of other games let you pull from a separate material storage, FFXIV really needs to catch up on that. Especially with how many mats we have, and the numbers are just increasing. Just to be able to pull mats out of my inventories without having to drag each item out of a retainer is all I want. ; ;

    But we need so much more than that though, with inventory being an issue this is close to the simplest solution to fix it.

    That would be a free increase of 150-300 slots' worth of on-hand mats.

    What's the problem with that? I understand SE likes to make money as they are a business but charging double the subscription price to be a crafter in a crafting heavy game seems dumb.

    This would be pretty darn similar, as you wouldn't need to lug around your crafting mats it would free up your retainers and your inventory spaces you wouldn't even need a private chest.

    I was merely pointing out that ChickenNugget's suggested improvement would be far from insignificant, and would likely be, in fact, simpler.

    Oh I agree, I just think in terms of grandeur I'd like the one that would polish off the whole system quite well. To be able to pull stuff automatically from Chests/retainers and that's all we get? Sure I'll take that but we need something is the point of all this.

    Idk; not being bogged down by clunky retainer UI seems like a godsend to me. "Here are all my materials/equippable gear/spendable tokens, from wherever they may come."

    On topic:

    I'm working up an idea to combine the two concepts for multi-person crafts via "crafter tables" or (a slightly different version of) "workshops". I'll run it by you if it gets to even the spitball stage.

    EDIT:

    Alright, so at its most basic, the idea is identical to yours except in that multiple players can make use of the stored resources and can easily or even automatically add to the supply of said resources. Essentially, it's just enlarging it to an actual workshop environment, making use of a few additional assets physical such as blueprints (on a board or across the table itself) and a couple UI additions by which to track what everyone's making and how it contributes to the intended final products. For instance, you could have someone make ingots or nuggets and pass these back into the center afterwards, whereupon they'd be automatically "soft tapped" by whoever's using those 2nd tier materials to make something 3rd tier, and so forth. If the production of a certain ingredient is running behind the others, it would automatically be flagged on the given UI.

    You could spice this up further by allowing combined crafting. For instance, let's say you have two players of roughly the same gear levels but with different skill load-outs, one of which performs better over the first half of a craft, and the other over the latter. One could pass it off, at the same durability and CP cost thus far, to the other. This probably ought to be limited to FC gear, though, such as market-prohibited parts creation or maybe even a new category of gear that doesn't soulbind but can only be used by players within a particular FC or FC alliance.

    I believed Yoshi-P mentioned before that they are working on allowing the players to craft directly from the retainer banks? Not sure on the status of it though...
