I think some of you have seriously never played on a Xbox console, their strict requirements date back to the original Xbox, this is going to be a bit of a history lesson. When Sega released Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2 on Xbox, the game was required to have Xbox Live, plus a Hunters License, it's online service fee. Sega gave the green light for this, released the game, but stopped supporting it because of Xbox wanting to charge for updates, players got annoyed at the lack of updates and eventually started to hack the game, they were able to bring over Dreamcast items, that were planned to be released in content updates, as well as found files that suggested that Sega was considering bringing over Episode 4 to Xbox as a final expansion, instead that was scrapped and it was released as Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst, as a PC only release.

Microsoft has continued to do this, and even stopped the Xbox 360 version of The Orange Box from using steam servers, they also prevented Portal 2 from again being cross play. Sony actually allowed cross play before Xbox ever did and way before any of this started to come back into the main stream with Portal 2.
Microsoft and Sony did anti consumers decision regarding cross play and imo - as a fan of gaming in general - this needs to stop. Sony refused to agree and minecraft as one example isn't cross play with ps4, while you can play basically with every plattform together soon. There is also something going on with Dragon Quest X from Square Enix...
So the PS4 version costs more per month than the other versions, and you can't use the same sub to play on (Wii U/PC/Switch) and PS4 because they're not compatible. Awful.

Actually, in this case, it's not a disagreement between Sony and Microsoft but a disagreement between Yoshida and Microsoft. MS has 2 things that Yoshi-P is against right now: 1) MS wants dedicated, private, XBox-only servers which Yoshi-P will not agree to. 2) MS wants to require XBox Live Gold (the pay-for version) to play FFXIV which will cost consumers more to play the game over the PC and PS4 players.

Right now Sony is sitting back going, "You guys hash it out between yourselves, we'll just be sitting here letting XIV's customers bolster or numbers."

The Tegra X1 reduces its clock speed to around 307MHz when "undocked". This is why Zelda FPS rates range from 15-30 "mobile". Docked it is around the 770Mhz range. If SE had the option they would make the game play in docked mode only, as the poor FPS undocked would be horrible for the player and their party would likely suffer from it as well. However, if Nintendo Switch Policy states titles must be playable in Docked and Undocked mode, why would SE even bother.

Realize I do not know Nintendo's Switch Development Policies.

Xbox version is in Microsoft's court, they have the power...

A switch version would be a retrograde step, we just phased out the PS3, why lumber the game with inadequate platforms to support again?

P.S. no switch isn't powerful enough, it's not even as powerful as an nVidia Shield.

This argument has a noticeable hole in it: Dragon Quest X. Near as I can tell, it runs about as well on the Switch as any other platform.

I can't tell how well XIV would run, but SE, unlike the lazy-a$$ed Western 3rd parties on our side of the Pacific, might have ways to optimize the game.

What is your point? Dragon Quest X was a Wii (yes, original Wii)game, of course it'd work on Switch...

The point many are making is that making a Switch version would be ridiculous, as they've just rid themselves of the whole PS3 problem - they'd be replacing one problem with another. If you didn't know, the Switch isn't very powerful.

Probably not gonna happen for either one. The Switch version would have to be in its own environment and possibly licensed out a la Korea and China. As for Xbox... well, they're still insisting that people pay for Gold to access any sort of online content and Square is holding a hardline stance that they would rather not force one platform to pay the subscription to the game in addition to a subscription to Gold. This also feeds back into a Switch version, as their online services will cost money eventually (though at a much cheaper rate than Live).

Expecting everybody to play the game the way you do is not a way to foster a pleasant experience for anybody.

With the upgraded Xbox coming it would be such a great addition to their games list. The switch like the rest of you has me completely baffled. I can't even believe its being talked about. I was hoping for some friends that it being for Xbox would be an announcement at E3. Oh well!

I wouldve thought the upgraded XBox would've been perfect for XIV since they seem to like pruning their list of games to where the PS4 looks freaking amazing (I have both systems but I have friends who would want to play and only have Xboxes....) But I'm assuming server issues is where its at more than Xbox Gold. I tend to agree in liking Microsoft's servers, however Square's are just fine and they need to let go....

As for the Switch.......just....no please.....I don't even know why its being talked about. I don't hate the Switch, but I think its unnecessary in terms of limitations it would have.
