Character Slot Fee even for your first (only) character?

Unless I am misunderstanding the fee chart, every player must pay both a base subscription fee as well as $3 extra per character played every month. The character fee is incurred even if you only have 1 character - which makes no sense to me.

I really do not understand why the base subscription fee does not already include 1 character slot. To me, that is misleading advertising - the base fee is really not $6.99, it is really $9.99 once you add in the character slot fee. However, since you must have at least one character in order to use the subscription, it seems very wrong to tack on that fee for your first character. If you choose to add additional characters, then I can at least see the rationale for charging an extra fee for those characters. But if you just have one character? That doesn't seem right.

Perhaps this is just another typo/mistranslation? What reason would anyone have to just pay a monthly service fee without at least one character slot?

This is how it has been from the start. Originally it was going to be $9.99 sub fee with $3.00 per character fee. Obviously you have to pay for at least one character otherwise you can't play.

The only thing is wrong with it is the way it's presented in layout. We've been over this several times with it.

Yes OP, you are correct, it makes no sense, and it never has. It is needlessly convoluted for an unknown reason. Perhaps it pertains to their accounting practices or tax schema, who knows. There must be some inane justification internally for "wording" it this way. Whatever that is is a mystery.

i don't see the problem. it's stated everywhere you pay 12$ to play.
On billing information it's stated you pay 9$ dollars for basic service+3$ for character fee, but they are still 12$.
@shikaree: after they migrated FFXI to they service, the billing it's pslitted like ffxiv. Btw that don't mean you pay some additional fee for 2 simultaneus billing or whatever, the price it's the same as before

I would recommend searching a bit on the forums, there are plenty of discussion threads about this. I know it takes a bit of time, but the search feature is your best friend.

As far as my input to the discussion:

They have it broken down purposely this way, 6.99 base and 3.00 per character. Makes perfect sense to me, if your seeking a dumbed down version of the charges, unfortunately SE won't obligate you. Just think of it as 9.99 for one character, and 3.00 for each additional.

I think the point is:

You wouldn't subscribe unless you had at least one character, ergo, why not simple state the subscription cost in a plain, straightforward, unambiguous way, for example

"The subscription fee is $9.99 per month. If you want more than one character, there is a $3.00 fee for each additional character."

That is a lot more unambiguous.

Plenty of people will reply that "the way they have communicated it is completely clear" but then, if that were true, we wouldn't have seen a number of different threads on this subject, now would we?

we see a number of thread on trait bein equippable or why point alloitment it's for every class in common, while they are stated clearly. Do you see a path ?

Isn't it obvious why they do this? It's a marketing scheme to dupe the simple-minded. And stuff like this works too. Why do you think retailers mark something as 9.99 when it's obviously 10 bucks?
