Suggestion: Turn Balmung into an Official RP Server

if not for the fact that most people will flock to Balmung anyways.

well not if Balmung remains locked for the next 6 months.

if people are having trouble with the main server, they could always transfer out to one of the other two for whatever reason suits them.

Well I guess they could move Balmung over (as the "main server" in the group) to the new data center to help things a long and yes this will spilt the comunity over the data ceter but with all the cross world stuff coming I believe this a non-issue.

taking the emotion out of it, Balmung needs to be fagmented for server stabilty (ie no to Mega server)

If Balmung gets an RP icon.

I'm not a role-player and have been on Balmung since 1.0's beta, when it was actually Besaid (and Fabul).

If I remember it right, at that time Fabul was the inofficial RP server (because "fabulous")


Giving Balmung now a RP tag will not make the server smaller. It will only increase the posting rate of "Why is Balmung locked?" threads

I'm non-RP or sometimes use RP. But, my good friend is in Balmung. I wanted transfer it.
My friend can't transfer my server. Since she had many friends in Balmung. I'm alone in Odin.

Besaid was the non-official rp server of 1.0 until it and Fabul merged and Balmung was born. As I was part of that all the way to ARR and up to 2.3 on my other character. The population was still heavy non-rp.

Labeling the server as an official RP would be an extremely poor decision as it will not fix anything while also discouraging the larger portion of its players, many that have been there since their original servers merged.

The server deserves to be locked due to the selfishness, laziness, and greed of the playerbase. If SE wanted to make an official RP server, they would likely target the lowest pop server of the Datacenter and offer free transfers to it. As it would allow room for growth.

There are also plenty of RP players out there not on Balmung or Gilgamesh. You just choose to ignore it. I left Balmung with my alt as I predicted these issues back in ARR beta.

Honestly if you want the pop to drop on balmung or even balence out the best option would be to make a new server all together and label that one the rp server or even two servers

Not a fan of that option personally, but it is viable if SE wants to cash in on the transfers..

In 1.0 I believe by the end of 2010 I was on besaid, later started on balmung, an I been there ever since.
It be unfair at least from my side since I never RP never been interested on that,
is best if they just tag a new server RP instead of balmung it's been home for many years for my only character.
I'm pretty sure there are others like me out there.

As others noted, this is just a step above labeling Balmung an RP server and enforcing rules with the explicit intent of driving non-RPers out (Lore-compliant names only etc). That's just as bad a forced split of the server.

Someone has already made a thread suggesting that Square Enix label a -brand new- server an RP server which is far more likely to do well than this idea. Though it is not as likely based on a few of my previous posts about the active populations and how Square Enix seems to be aiming to level out populations. When the populations are leveled out, -then- they add more. (Aka Chaos/EU DC has all nearly 7k and over while Aether DC has Gilgamesh and Balmung. Gilgamesh and Balmung are locked at like 12k and 18k actives. The next highest is like 6.5k. Mateus is the lowest at just under 3k. That's too much flux and variation, so they want it to stabilize within the data centers.)

We need to NOT label Balmung as the Official RP Server. That's throwing gasoline onto a grease fire with a couple of sticks of uranium for good measure of lethality.

We need RP'ers to acknowledge a new server as the Unofficial RP Server, because Square has stated several times they have no intent of adding labels to their servers, and would prefer the community of players to determine that for themselves. Rather than constantly bothering SE about this like parsers, we just need RP'ers to pick another server and move on. Balmung had its time, and it'll never truly die, but NOW is the time to get in on the ground-level in building a new RP community.

There's been a pretty strong and active campaign to have RP'ers gather on Mateus as our new unofficial RP server. Polls have been taken across various websites and tumblr and what have you. If you really want to support RP and the RP community, it's time to move off of Balmung.
