They didn't mention why, but my guess is that it's because of some dribble about individuality and how no other melee job has a linear AoE. Maybe peppered in with some explanation of how it feels more logical lore-wise or something along those lines.
Oh right, let's not forget every doofus in Idyllshire endlessly spamming it because it makes you wonder "who finds that entertaining" only to realize that it might have to do with the reasoning behind the DRG "first dead" stereotype.
I still think Wide Volley should have just been scrapped entirely when they did the Bloodletter/RoD changes and replaced with a skill that actually had some use.Doesn't explain why the animation had to be removed. Heck, you could as easily just made Wide Volley the Quick Nock trait -- at over 12 yalms from the target, you can still use Quick Nock, but it consumes 20 more TP.
I am sad about Scourge though, it's a nice DoT and anim.
From a technical point of view, they can't remove the animations. They are "baked" into the character model interactions, so if they remove it, they also remove anything that depends on the animation keyframes.
That said, if the skill is not there, then nothing can trigger it either. So they might get moved to the emotes menu. It's bad practice to actually "Delete" things from game databases because that creates fun problems where the id number gets reassigned during maintenance and then suddenly everyone who had it on their macro menu is doing something else.
Like what I expect is for them to become "green" like the mount actions. So they may still exist somewhere but they do no damage/buff/debuff.
The particle effects as well as the particular movement in which the character used such excessive force to swing that huge blade was rather satisfying.
Also it's because DRK looks like it will end up spamming the rather lackluster Soul Eater hop with the occasional Fell Spiller. Essentially DRK became a re-skinned WAR both aesthetically and mechanically.
I would much rather have kept dancing edge's animation than armor crush's...

Here's one I'll miss that everyone's overlooked: Mutilate. RIP instant stylish somersault.
Words to live by.Expecting everybody to play the game the way you do is not a way to foster a pleasant experience for anybody.
I am really going to miss Mercy Stroke. I use it all the time and get the final proc for extra HP on a regular basis.
I have a feeling they might put in those skills as emotes that they remove and are highly requested by players in mogstation and charge it for a fee....oh god..
